Dominus Ghaul[1] is a Cabal warlord and the main antagonist of Destiny 2 and the commander of the Cabal Red Legion, deployed to invade Earth by the order of the Cabal Emperor after the Skyburners' distress call was received. His ideology and beliefs strayed from his original orders, causing him to command his forces to claim the Light instead. He personally led his forces in a successful surprise attack on the Last City, destroying the Tower and isolating the Traveler behind a force field, leaving the Guardians displaced and powerless.[2]

Dominus Ghaul believed that the Cabal should have been chosen by the Traveler rather than humanity. In assaulting the Last City, he desired to demonstrate to the Traveler that it had made the wrong choice, as well as to harness its Light for use by the Cabal. He seeks to establish a new order amongst the light, where the Cabal will rise as newly reborn Guardians.[1]
Ghaul appears to be an adept strategist, planning his invasion during a severe thunderstorm, which concealed his warships from immediate detection by The Last City. He also managed to disable the Skyline Defense Systems. Ghaul is the most effective enemy of The Last City observed to date, managing to end the City Age in the span of several hours, something that took centuries for the other enemy races to accomplish, even Oryx.
Trivia
- With the exception of the Psion Flayers, Ghaul is the only known Cabal leader whose name is one syllable. All others have two in their names.
- Ghaul is the first Cabal character to fluently speak English, and the third overall antagonist to do so.
