The Jovians are a group or race of entities said to inhabit the Jovians, the worlds of the Sol System located beyond the Reef. Xûr, Agent of the Nine is one of the members of the Jovians.[1]
Overview[edit]
According to Xûr, he and others like him were once human, but were radically transformed to a far greater extent than even the Awoken; the Nine themselves are said to be responsible for this change.[2] Additionally, Xûr claims that while the Awoken had no choice in being changed, the Jovians did so willingly.[3] He speaks of being made of cells with the memories of the past and coming from the dust.[4][5]
During a ritual on Titan, a Jovian Priestess explained that they were created from dead humans brought to the Jovians by "the Alchemist" (aka VI of the Nine) after foreseeing their future. The Jovians are created from dust burrowing into these humans to give themselves form. In truth, VI had done so purely so it could create Xûr to become the Nine's Emissary and give them a means of escape. During the ritual, VI would reveal this to Xûr before burning his will away and converting Titan's atmosphere to nitrogen, likely killing the other Jovians present.[6] It is unknown if any other Jovians survive.
Trivia[edit]
- If Xûr's group of Jovians are native to Titan, a moon of Saturn, it follows that the term "Jovian" means the inhabitants of all the Jovian Planets in the solar system, not only Jupiter.
