Ariel Battleground is a new pve gamemode introduced in the Codename: Ship expansion, where players take command of a large interceptor craft known as TBA to battle the Cabal and Hive in space combat.

Overview

Players can take up several roles aboard the TBA, including Pilot, Gunner, Engineer and Defender.

• Pilots are charged with steering the ship to objectives and maneuvering in combat.
• Gunners can
• Engineers are responsible for maintaining the TBA and repairing any damage done.
• Defenders are tasked with eliminating enemy boarders.
• Boarders can able to leave the ship aboard their own Fighter Craft to take the fight to the enemy and even board enemy warships.

Alternatively, if five additional players aren't available, NPC crewmates can be hired using TBA and assigned to different roles on the ship.

Flavor text for Crew members is created using a combination of three different sentences to form the full flavor text. Below are multiple examples of some possible outcomes.

Eliksni

• Fled from House Salvation in hijacked Skiff. Family transformed into Revenant Scorn.
• Once a feared Captain docked following a raid gone wrong.
• An ex-bouncer at the Spider's Palace.
• Descended from a House lost to the Whirlwind.
• Once part of a raid on the New Pacific Archology; was the only survivor.

Servitor

Rescued from attempted Scorn Ether Ritual.

Survivor of the Final Attempt.

Personal Servitor of the Spider.

Smuggled among House Salvation deserters.

Shank

Barant

• A survivor of the Fall of Torobatl.
• Deserted from the Red Legion after a failed attack on the Leviathan. Hunted by the Red Legion for desertion. Offered to serve as Spider's bodyguard but was told it was too expensive
• Dust Giant veteran with multiple Martian operations to their name.
• Assigned to Terrabase on Io to guard operations. Deserted post during a large Taken assault.
• Accidentally killed superior.

Psion

Originally a Loyalist of Calus: fled the Leviathan after leaving the Mercurian Anomaly. Surrendered to Guardians during an attack on a Cabal base and allowed to join Caiatl’s Imperial Forces. Frequently prays to the Y-Goblet for smooth sailing.

Awoken Corsair

Veteran of the Reef Wars. Thinks often of her [sister/brother] trapped in the Dreaming City’s Curse Loop

Defected from the Vestian Web after the Battle of Saturn. Often dreams of the Distributary.

Human

Frequently did guerrilla attacks against the Shadow Legion.

Great grandparents were ex-Echelon South supporters.

Helped protect a caravan to the Last City.

Hacker from Neomuna.

Member of the Aionians. Forced to kill House Exile friend.
