Orientation is a side quest in The Edge of Fate expansion unlocked after completing the Mission: Morphology story mission. In it, The Guardian, Orin and Lodi investigate symbols of The Nine scattered around Kepler.

Steps

Step 1

Seek out vestiges of the Nine's presence across Kepler.

The Nine's presence permeates Kepler. With Lodi's willingness to act as a catalyst, you may be able to learn more about why the Nine are here.

• Lodi: [speaks Russian] A Russian map! Where is Pluto? Y'know, it's hard to grok that those voices are… planets. Or, attached to planets. Orin, it's a two-way line to the Nine, right?
• Orin: It is, if it's daisies. What do you want to ask?
• Lodi: I want to know why they abducted me.
• Orin: That is a very good question.

The Guardian locates a symbol of I in Dr. Carnahan's lab.

• Orin: You'll sense your connection to them as a guitar string. Feel for it, then pluck—a loud A. Whoever is closest will answer.
• Lodi: They're ultraviolet. I can do this. It's just saying hello. Here we go.
• IX: .emissary. .you are just | as rare as me. .once in a half | life. .and look | you found the qui|tter.
• Lodi: Whichever of the Nine you are, I want to know what you want with me. Why did you take me from… everything?
• XI: .a rude question. .one worth | entertaining. .we n|eed you a|nd your gifts. .you are called | to serve.

Step 2

Locate a second group of symbols of the Nine.

There must be more vestiges of the Nine to find. Search Kepler to uncover a sliver of the message the Nine want to share.

• Orin: It wasn't worth bear traps!

The Guardian finds and communes with a symbol of IX in The Gorge.

• Lodi: I—I want to help, but I need to know who you are first.
• IX: .child of III | who| swam in th|eir lakes | sweat o|n their plains | you have |always| known me.
• Lodi: The Sun.
• IX: .when we |woke| we were tied to | the planets within the | sapients' system. .we are bound | to our gra|vity wells. .the inner nine und|erstand this | arrangement. .but the outer nine | see the sub|text. .matter is | prison. .and so | we are div|ided in two fac|tions.

Step 3

Locate a third group of symbols of the Nine.

Step 4

Locate a fourth group of symbols of the Nine.

LANGUAGE HELD IN TIME. ARE YOU PAYING ATTENTION, WEAPON? AN AVATAR OF LIFE. A WEAPON OF DEATH. DO YOU SEE THESE WORDS THROUGH GLASS AND LIGHT?

Step 5

Bind your connections with the Nine to the Orrery.

Eight connections rest, held in your grip, your mind, your will. Perhaps the representation of the celestial bodies you found before was meant to be a metaphor—one your paracausality can turn into an open channel.

• Orin: Lodi, listen. You deserve citrus. Please, as painful as it is, the truth is that you can't solve this.
• Lodi: If it's not me and my bosons, it's some other poor bastard! I don't want the Nine abducting somebody even further in the past than I was.
• Orin: Stop this and save yourself! Move to the Tower! Rebuild your life—that's what I'm doing. You can choose who you are! Do not self-immolate!
• Lodi: If I set myself on fire then no one else has to!
• Orin: Lodi! No!
