"And my vanquisher will read that book, seeking the weapon, and they will come to understand me, where I have been and where I was going."

Transcript[edit]

The Exo Stranger has poured over Clovis's digital journal and discovered that despite learning more about Stasis from the available pages, much of it is still encrypted. Turns out, Clovis didn't trust many, including his family.

Though this is not the Exo Stranger's first time seeing it, she has never been able to fully decrypt it to further understand its secrets. But with you at her side, decrypting the journal finally feels like a reality.

In order to decrypt and explore it further, the Exo Stranger once again asks you to empower the Skeleton Key with Stasis energy, believing that Clovis installed it in her hoping she would use it to one day continue his work and further his legacy.

Follow the Exo Stranger's guidance to empower the Skeleton Key.

  • EXO STRANGER: Turns out Clovis’s journal is fairly encrypted, and I’m unable to bypass most of it. Probably to keep it away from, well, me. I stood by his side for a time. It’s why I look like this. He needed a guinea pig, and after Dad passed… I needed a father figure. Eventually, I realized my mistake and joined my sisters in trying to take our grandfather down. So Clovis took precautions to keep us from interfering. Didn’t want us exposing every dark truth about every unethical experiment. And so here we are. Encrypted journal and all. I think it’s about time we extract some good from the bad.[2]

Step 1: Key to the Truth[edit]

-Defeat Vex on Europa for their energy.
-Get Stasis shatter final blows by shattering frozen combatants and stasis crystals on Europa.

  • Energized radiolarian fluid collected: 50
  • Combatants defeated with shatter damage: 20

The Skeleton Key once again requires energy to empower it. The Exo Stranger believes that energy from the radiolarian fluid inside Vex and the usage of Stasis abilities should help you do so.

"Poring through Clovis's journal revealed to me just where his next decryption algorithm is hidden, and how to empower the Skeleton Key to access it. The answer lies in the Vex, and as always, Darkness."
— The Exo Stranger

Step 2: Key to the Truth[edit]

-Complete playlist activities with your Stasis subclass equipped.
-Use Stasis abilities in playlist activities. Defeating Guardians grants additional progress.

  • Combatants affected by Stasis: 60
  • Playlist activities with Stasis equipped: 3

The Exo Stranger wants you to further empower the Skeleton Key so you can decrypt more of Clovis's journal. Do so by using Stasis to defeat combatants or other Guardians. Playlist activities such as Crucible or Vanguard Operations should give you that opportunity.

"This is a bit unusual, I know—but the Skeleton Key is not yet fully empowered, and we have an opportunity here to test our Stasis skills on ourselves. If you feel comfortable with that, of course. If not, continue to empower it through our enemies. It never hurts to thin their ranks."
— The Exo Stranger

Step 3: Key to the Truth[edit]

Defeat the House Salvation Fallen platoon near the Crux of Darkness in Riis-Reborn Approach.

  • House Salvation platoon defeated

The Skeleton Key is almost ready. The Stranger believes one more boost of energy from combatants near a Crux should do it.

"The Skeleton Key's nearly brimming with energy. One more boost should do the trick."
— The Exo Stranger

Step 4: Key to the Truth[edit]

Bring the Skeleton Key to the Exo Stranger in the Perdition Lost Sector in Cadmus Ridge.

  • Incomplete

The Skeleton Key is fully empowered. It's time to rendezvous with the Exo Stranger and further decrypt Clovis's journal.

"Now that the Skeleton Key's empowered once again, bring it to me and let's untangle more of Clovis's secrets."
— The Exo Stranger

Transcript[edit]

The Guardian finds Elsie combing through data from the nearby console with her datapad.

  • EXO STRANGER: Clovis may have been a bastard, but he was a brilliant one. He hid decryption algorithms for his journal all over Europa. Found one. It's in this console. Bring the key to it.

The Guardian enters the skeleton key into the console.

  • EXO STRANGER: We told her she was adopted. Ana. It was... simpler than telling her about our father's infidelity. But it was more than that. Ana had some... destructive tendencies as a child. Reminded us all of the old man himself. Our mother thought if Ana believed she wasn't one of us, she'd dodge our grandfather's "genetic cruelty" as she called it. I never bought it. Cruelty isn't genetic; it's learned. Clovis chose to be evil. And Ana was just a child acting out after losing her father. But... in my original timeline, my dark future, Ana eventually found her own brand of cruelty, thanks to the Darkness. It used her troubled past to manipulate her. And she wasn't strong enough to resist, and I —

Elsie looks away despondent.

  • EXO STRANGER: I had to put an end to it. To my little sister's life... There was no other choice.
  • GHOST: You... killed Ana?
  • EXO STRANGER: In my dark future, yes. Truth be told... I miss her. But in this timeline... she doesn't even know that I'm alive. That's... by my own design. This time, I kept her away from her past and from me, to prevent the Darkness from getting to her. But no matter what I do — it still finds a way. Eris Morn gave in to curiosity and brought the Darkness. Eramis gave in to desire and built a Dark empire. As with all things Dark, they were both driven by obsession. Because that's where our fault lies. That's how Darkness corrupts. I can't ignore it any longer. Keeping Ana away will only cause her obsession to grow, and the Darkness will find her. I must find her first.

The decryption of the journal is complete.

  • EXO STRANGER: The decryption code worked. There's enough Stasis research in here to hold us over for now, but there's a lot yet to decipher. And Ana should be here when we do. I'll let you know what's next once I make sense of it all.

Elsie transmats away.[3]

Step 5: Key to the Truth[edit]

Regroup with the Exo Stranger in Beyond.

  • Exo Stranger visited

Thanks to the new data recovered, the Exo Stranger has another Stasis-related gift for you.

"Digging further into Clovis's journal is really paying off. Or I should say, Clovis's Golden Age experiments with Stasis are finally paying off. At least they're doing so for us, and not for him. Come to me at the campsite and our findings are yours to keep."
— The Exo Stranger

Notes[edit]

Visit the Exo Stranger back at her base camp to unlock the Duskfield Grenade for your Stasis subclasses upon completion.

Transcript[edit]

The Exo Stranger seems lost in thought when you approach, but your presence quickly snaps her out of it.

"I've sent a message to Ana. I can only hope she receives it well. Assuming she has any desire to speak to me, we will hopefully be seeing her soon."

The Exo Stranger's demeanor shifts—excitement is on the horizon.

"In more hopeful news, decrypting Clovis's journal has yielded another opportunity to enhance your Stasis powers. I can't wait to see what you do with it."[4]
