The Black Heart

The Black Heart is a mysterious entity located in the Black Garden. It is of central importance to the Vex, who worship it as a god. The Black heart appears a massive, floating black mass of chaotically flowing fluid, with energy emanating from it. To protect itself, it summons the Sol Progeny by binding itself to them, bringing them to life. The Black Heart was destroyed when the three Sol Progeny were destroyed. Its destruction helped light to return to the Traveler.[1]

Ikora Rey hypothesizes that the Black Heart was a being so beyond comprehension that even the Vex saw no logical option other than worship it. However, the abomination was too weak to summon all three Sol Progeny at once, and the fact that it needed to summon them in the first place meant that it was vulnerable. Nonetheless, this must have been just a portion of a greater power. [2]

The Undying Mind attempted to restore the Black Heart by reverting the Garden back to the darkness, but the Guardians were able to stop it.[3]
