Swordbearer Nightmares are Nightmares of Swordbearer Knights that appear all over the Sol System.
Gameplay
Swordbearer Nightmares fight much like normal Cleaver bearing Knights, but drop their weapons when defeated, which is then used as part of an activity's mechanics. Most of them look like Knights of the Hidden Swarm.
Major Swordbearer Nightmares appear in Nightmare Hunt: Despair, where their Cleavers are to be used against the Nightmare of Crota, Son of Oryx, who is otherwise immune to damage[1]. Elite ones also appear in the mission Beyond, where they serve the same purpose[2].
Other Elite Swordbearer Nightmares are part of the mechanics of the Warsat Down Public Event, where their Cleavers are used to break the shield of Ugul Gar Wizards, whose death unlocks one of three Shriekers, whose destruction is necessary to make the event Heroic[3]. In the Cosmodrome, they will appear as Knights of Savathûn's Brood[4].
Finally, Ultra Swordbearer Nightmares act as sacrifices in the Altars of Sorrow Event. These ones don't drop their Cleaver, and will make a run for the sacrificial altar instead of fighting Guardians. Elite ones also appear when Wizards interrupt the ritual, and their Cleavers are to be used to break the caster's shields[5].
