The Traveler[edit]
File 1[edit]
A spherical paracausal entity beyond human comprehension.
It is the creator of the Ghosts and the source of the Lightbearers' Light. The Traveler arrived in Sol millennia ago and enlightened the human race, leading to technological marvels and humanity's Golden Age. It is said that the Traveler had also blessed countless alien civilizations before arriving in Sol, chief among them being the "fallen" Eliksni.
But what is the Traveler's purpose? No one knows for sure.
File 2[edit]
A spherical paracausal entity beyond human comprehension.
When the Speaker saw the broken Lumifly cocoon, she shared a dream of the Traveler as she perceived it.
"I've seen it, in the Traveler's dreams…"
"I heard the Light shivering, crying out… The dream pained as it swelled…"
"For a moment, the cosmos was a sea of white, as if engulfed by luminescence. I heard the Traveler's gentle sobs. Its wounds… They were singing."
"Once all the voices fell silent, the Lumiflies…flew out from within its fractures."
Her words seem to be describing some manner of calamity.
The Light[edit]
A paracausal force that existed long before the creation of time and space.
Light comes from the Traveler. It is a force that brings complexity and diversity, capable of creating matter and harboring life. In the physical universe, the Light can allow the user to tamper with the laws of physics at will. Those possessing the Light can wield Arc, Solar, and Void forces as weapons without harming themselves.
Ghosts[edit]
Small sentient machines created by the Traveler shortly after the Collapse.
The Traveler created the Ghosts with its "last breath" before falling into hibernation. These small, intelligent hovering machines have been roaming Earth from the early days of the Dark Age and onward, fulfilling their mission: to find the remains of human beings and resurrect them as Lightbearers, beings blessed with the power of Light.
The Ghosts are the bridge between Lightbearers and the Light. They can replenish the Light they use in battle and, more importantly, revive them after they have died.
Lightbearers[edit]
Individuals resurrected by Ghosts who possess the power of the Light.
They are able to wield Arc, Solar, and Void forces with their flesh and blood. What's more, as long as their Ghost still exists, Lightbearers who fall in battle can be revived, rendering them almost immortal.
When a Lightbearer is first revived, they will not retain the memories of their previous life. Very few Lightbearers learn about their past identities and experiences, though those who do may with they hadn't…
Tree of Light[edit]
A phenomenon created by the merging of the Light with natural trees.
After it fell into hibernation, the Light of the Traveler was gradually cast down, flowing from the cracks in its shell and extending to Earth's surface. It penetrated the Earth's crust, spread over the continents, and intermingled with the plants, sprouting giant Trees of Light. The land around these trees, having been irrigated by the Light of the Traveler, is overwhelmed with vitality.
During the Dark Age, the areas where Trees of Light take root are often the battlegrounds where the Warlords clashed most fiercely.
Golden Age[edit]
A period of prosperity that spanned several generations of human history.
In the millennia following the arrival of the Traveler in Sol, humanity's technological levels rose to unprecedented heights. Driven and even taught by the Traveler, government agencies, private organizations, and enterprises alike developed and produced a variety of miraculous technologies, and breakthroughs of different scientific theories were being made daily. All terraformed planets in Sol had been colonized, and plans for colonization of other galaxies were underway.
However, all of this came to an end with the arrival of the Collapse.
The Collapse[edit]
A calamity that nearly wiped out human civilization.
For hundreds of years, humankind enjoyed the Golden Age brought by the Traveler. What they did not know was that such prosperity would not last forever. The Collapse's arrival was sudden, as was its end. By the time it concluded, human civilization had been almost completely destroyed.
Dark Age[edit]
A period of great disorder following the Collapse.
After the Collapse, the Traveler fell into a long hibernation. At this time, human civilization had been nearly wiped out. The old order no longer existed and was instead replaced by the laws of the jungle, where the strong prey on the weak. Violent conflicts over the few remaining resources frequently erupted among the survivors. It was an era filled with slaughter, looting, slavery, and death. For the almost immortal Lightbearer Warlords, their time had come.
Ahamkara[edit]
File 1[edit]
Powerful, magical, shape-shifting creatures.
They possess an incredible and unique ability to manipulate reality and fulfill other beings' wishes through the Anthem Anatheme. Doing so grants the Ahamkara the spiritual energy they need to survive.
However, the trade come at a price. While the wishes are indeed granted, they are accompanied by unintended consequences—usually something the wish-maker would prefer not to encounter.
File 2[edit]
Powerful, magical, shape-shifting creatures.
What many people do not know is that an Ahamkara's powers will not dissipate with the death of their corporeal bodies; their remains still hold the ability to invoke the Anthem Anatheme and grant wishes. However, without the Ahamkara's consciousness holding it in check, the magic energy becomes even more chaotic, more disorderly, to the point where it can even distort the surrounding environment. This often results in the generation of illusions and the altering of nearby objects' appearances.
Sentinels[edit]
File 1[edit]
One of mankind's incredible Golden Age creations.
Taketori Industry—a Golden Age industry leader in mechanical engineering—built these giant robots. These self-propelled weapon platforms are hundred of meters in height and measure tens of thousands of tons. They are powered by several Light cores and can be loaded with experimental, cutting-edge weapons ranging from traditional artillery, missiles, and lasers to thermofusion, anitmatter, and sonic waves. Each Sentinel possesses a destructive power unimaginable to the common human.
File 2[edit]
One of mankind's incredible Golden Age creations.
Taketori Industry originally built the Sentinels to compete with Clovis Bray's "Warmind" military program. Sentinels combined Taketori Industry's own expertise in mechanical engineering, researchers' study of the Light, and exotic materials collected from alien planets. The programs, initially codenamed "Lunarin," was gradually implemented in the Moon's orbit.
Sentinels were assembled in zero gravity, then launched to Earth.
File 3[edit]
One of mankind's incredible Golden Age creations.
Although the Sentinels do not speak, it is said that each of them has a consciousness of its own. They independently identified targets that may threaten human civilization and rooted them out. However, when the Collapse came, not even the Sentinels could escape. They gradually collapsed in the paracausal catastrophe that ravaged the globe, leaving only their wreckage. The Sentinel roaming near Haven is believed to be the only one that survived the Collapse.
File 4[edit]
One of mankind's incredible Golden Age creations.
In order to ensure their mechs were foolproof in any situation, the researchers at Taketori Industry developed technology capable of releasing Light in a specific form and shaping it. These generators were installed on various parts of the Sentinels and could be enabled in specific scenarios, generating paracausal barriers capable of withstanding any known attacks.
Photon Reactors[edit]
A Sentinel's energy core, a creation of Light from the Golden Age.
Sparrow[edit]
A single-seat hover vehicle used to traverse long distances quickly.
Knowledge Synthesizer[edit]
An online knowledge management system with main servers located in Haven's Archives.
The Knowledge Synthesizer is open to all visitors for free and provides summaries of the knowledge and information archivists have collected over years of work. With more and more Lightbearers coming to Haven, it has become an excellent way for them to understand the world.
Shadowshaper Duels[edit]
A card game that started at Haven's "Bad Old Time" tavern and has rapidly been gaining popularity.
Shadowshaper Duels's cards feature Lightbearers, mortal warriors, and enemies of the Light. From a certain perspective, it's become a way to quickly understand these factions. The owner of Bad Old Time Wu Ming, claims he designed this game personally.
Haven Forums[edit]
An online forum frequented by Haven's residents.
Though it uses a somewhat outdated BBS format, from lost-and-found posting to socializing, it covers everything one could possibly want from such a platform, making it a great place to kill time. However, it's also home to several urban legends—take care not to get fooled.
Jiangshi Metro Communications Hub[edit]
File 1[edit]
A crucial global communications hub located in Jiangshi Metro. It has seen better days.
The hub appears to be missing some key parts. The Jiangshi Metro guerrillas are searching for relevant resources and material to get it back online.
File 2[edit]
A crucial global communications hub located in Jiangshi Metro. It has seen better days.
It is missing a key component called a quantum tuner, a Golden Age device capable of quantum signal processing and transmission.
File 3[edit]
A crucial global communications hub located in Jiangshi Metro. It has seen better days.
Though Radegast and Wolf seized the quantum tuner from Belaaks-1, Devil Sentry, it appears Golden Age permission from the Lanyue Space Station is still needed before the communications hub can get back online.
File 4[edit]
A crucial global communications hub located in Jiangshi Metro. It has seen better days.
With the quantum tuner and the Golden Age permission, Jiangshi Metro's communications hub is finally back online. Now, Haven can use this hub to connect with other human settlements.
