Hoplites are an elite and well-equipped field fortification specialists.
Overview[edit]
A unit long considered by the ranks of the Neon Wraiths, the idea for a Hoplite is to quickly create a perimeter and have on-demand cover in killzones should a Phalanx not be present. These units are, on the surface, a hybrid between a Legionary and a Phalanx, combining the formers swift and inexorable aggression with the latter's defensive capabilities.
Gameplay[edit]
These units combine the strengths of both the Legionary and Phalanx; the Hoplite is capable of making swift and devastating pushes towards their adversaries all the while outright protected by a sizable forearm mounted shield device that can protect them from any harm, which they can move around to protect any targeted part of their body. Should an adversary get close, the Hoplite will swipe at them with their shield-fit blades, dealing slightly more damage than a standard Legionary's wrist blade. When in open ground and nearby friendlies, the Hoplite will plant their Vambrace shield down, creating an energy barrier similar to that of a Phalanx, providing sizable cover for them and their friendlies, all the while allowing them to fire through at their opponents. The barrier can be destroyed by shooting the core where the shield was planted or will expire after a short period after the elimination of its placer. After planting the shield, the Hoplite loses its Vambrace Shield protection, but retains a wrist-blade melee.
