==History==
The Aegis was created by [[Kabr]], after his [[fireteam]] was erased from existence by the Templar. Kabr sacrificed his own light to create a weapon that could change fate and stop the Templar and its [[Oracle]]s.<ref name = 'GrimAegis'/> It was later used during the [[Age of Triumph]] when Guardians defeated an augmented, Taken Sekrion by using the Aegis to take down its shields.

==Gameplay==
The Aegis' main attack is a melee strike, which can combo into three hits, done with the "fire" button. Pressing the "aim" button on the ground executes the last hit of the melee combo, a short shoulder charge, while pressing it in the air will stop the user's momentum, and they will slam into the ground at an angle, inflicting heavy damage. Using the "block" button activates a domed shield, which removes the "Mark of Negation" debuff from allies within. This has a cooldown, however, so time wisely. Lastly, the Super attack fires an energy blast, and its main purpose is to bring down the Templar's shield. This Super is charged by killing the [[Harpy|Harpies]] the Templar and Atheon summon to defend themselves.

The Aegis is used in three different encounters: The Templar, The Gatekeeper, and [[Atheon]]. In the Templar encounter, the Aegis is used to destroy The Templar's Shield, allowing for the boss to be damaged. In The Gatekeeper encounter, the Aegis must be used to collected from the past, present, and future and all brought together into the present to defend the conflux. In the ''[[Destiny 2]]'' version of the encounter, the Aegis is the only way to destroy the shield of the [[Praetorian]]s that attempt to sacrifice to the Confluxes. During the Atheon encounter, the Aegis is used to protect timewarped Guardians against the effects of time travel and oncoming attacks from Harpies in the present. The Super is also an effective attack against Atheon. If the Aegis is not picked up within five seconds it will wipe the entire fireteam with the "Curse of the Aegis".

The Aegis makes an appearance in [[The Witch Queen]]'s ''Vow of the Disciple'' raid, as part of the "Exhibition" encounter along side the [[Taken Essence]] from [[Last Wish]]. Outside of being one of 3 items required to be held to view certain symbols throughout the encounter, it is functionally the same as it appeared in [[Season of the Splicer]]'s reprised version of Vault of Glass.
