Azirim was an evil Ahamkara who interacted with the Awoken of the Reef.
Azirim was a cruel, psychotic sadist who took pleasure in killing and was therefore barred from the Dreaming City; however, he showed up regardless during a celebration, claiming to the historian Esila that he had mended his ways. He made a show of his supposed contrition which enraptured dozens of the Awoken, including Esila, and then beguiled them into leaping off the cliffs of the Gardens of Esila. Azirim fed on their deaths and fled the city laughing in sadistic glee, both at the deaths of the Awoken he had tricked and at the Dreaming City's helplessness to stop him. The other Awoken, either too far to see what was happening or misled by an illusion, did not realize Azirim's crime until later.[1]
He was encountered during the Great Ahamkara Hunt by Ikora Rey and Wei Ning. Azirim mesmerized Ikora into making a wish, but Wei Ning gave Ikora a concussion, breaking her trance before she could complete it.
It has been theorized that Azirim could be behind the cursed loot cave in which the Grasp of Avarice Dungeon takes place and therefore responsible for the grisly fate of Wilhelm-7 and his Fireteam, but this is unconfirmed. If this is so, it would explain the loot cave's otherwise bizarre nature and purpose as a method of luring in treasure seekers, who would then be driven to madness and would murder each other out of paranoid delusion. This would serve a triple purpose of feeding Azirim (assuming he survived the Great Ahamkara Hunt), satisfying his sadistic desires and also fitting in line with his twisted sense of humor. Even if Azirim did not survive the Hunt, it is possible that his bones could have held enough influence to create the loot cave.
