'''Xita, the Nurturing Worm''' is the mother of the five [[Worm Gods]] worshipped by the [[Hive]]. She and her children were imprisoned within the core of [[Fundament]] by the [[Leviathan (Fundament)|Leviathan]] for eons until the [[Disciples of the Witness|Disciple]] [[Rhulk, Disciple of the Witness|Rhulk]] sought her out on behalf of [[The Witness|the Witness]], after which Rhulk used her as a source of Worm larvae to support the Hive. She was formerly used to power the [[The Upended|Upended]] aboard the [[Sunken Pyramid]], and is currently either deceased or catatonic following Rhulk's defeat.

==Biography==
===Origins===
According to [[Ahsa]], Xita and the other Worms originated from a "proto-Worm" species that once lived peacefully on Fundament, before they became corrupted by the philosophy of the [[the Witness|Witness]] and began slaughtering one another to achieve [[paracausality|paracausal]] supremacy through the [[Sword Logic]]; Xita was presumably either one of these original Worms or one of their descendants. At some point, Xita and her five offspring - [[Eir]], [[Ur]], [[Xol]], [[Yul]] and [[Akka]] - were imprisoned within the depths of [[Fundament]], where they remained for millennia. There they slowly starved, cut off from any hosts from which to siphon power through the [[Anthem Anatheme]]. 

===Subjugation===
Eventually, the Disciple of the Witness known as [[Rhulk, Disciple of the Witness|Rhulk]] visited the imprisoned Worms to offer a bargain: serve the [[The Witness|Witness]] in exchange for access to plentiful hosts for her kin in the form of the nascent [[Hive|Krill]] on the surface of the planet. Xita agreed, surrendering herself to Rhulk and leaving her children behind in the depths of Fundament. Some time after being brought aboard Rhulk's Pyramid, Xita overheard a conversation between Rhulk and the Witness, in which they discussed the Witness' plan to whisper a lie to [[Savathûn, the Witch Queen|Sathona]], one of the three daughters of the [[Osmium King]], to lead her and her sisters to seek out Xita's children in the planet's depths<ref>'''Bungie (2022/2/22)''', ''[[Destiny 2]]: [[The Witch Queen]] - Item Description: [[Resonant Fury Suit#Resonant Fury Plate|Resonant Fury Plate]]''</ref>. Around this time, Rhulk used pieces of Xita's body to breed a strain of parasitic "larvae" which could be implanted within a host, and set them adrift on the Fundament ocean so that they would wash up on the shores of the Osmium Court.{{Citation needed}}

Later, after the daughters of the Osmium King made their pact with Xita's children and became the Hive Gods [[Oryx, the Taken King|Oryx]], [[Savathûn, the Witch Queen|Savathûn]], and [[Xivu Arath, God of War|Xivu Arath]], Rhulk was tasked with keeping watch over Savathûn, and moved his Pyramid into Savathûn's Throne World. During this time, Xita was used as a source of Worm larvae to support Savathûn's Hive, and also as a source of energy for the Upended, which Rhulk planned to use to destroy Savathûn's Throne World in the event she stepped out of line.{{Citation needed}}

After Rhulk's defeat at the hands of the [[Guardian]]s, Xita has shown no signs of life, and is presumably either deceased or in a coma-like state. However, physical deaths for Worm Gods means little as seen with [[Xol, Will of the Thousands|Xol]], so exactly how permanent or impactful her physical death may be has yet to be seen.

==Trivia==
*Xita is the largest Worm seen in Destiny so far, easily outclassing [[Xol, Will of the Thousands]] in size. Though he has not yet been seen outside of the topmost part of him, one of Xita's deceased children, [[Akka, the Worm of Secrets]] is said to had been far larger than her, as a segment of his corpse was used by [[Oryx, the Taken King]] to craft his [[Dreadnaught]].
*Xita is so far the only confirmed female worm.
