The '''Theodicy War''' was a conflict waged between two factions of the [[Awoken]] within the [[Distributary]]. The rural [[Eccaleists]], led by the [[Diasyrm]], accused [[Queen]] [[Alis Li]] of deicide by denying them the chance at godhood when she was allegedly the first to awake within the Distributary and determined what form the Awoken would take. The city-dwelling [[Sanguine]] supported Queen Li against these accusations. A peace was eventually negotiated between the two sides by [[Mara Sov|Mara]], [[Uldren Sov|Uldren]], and [[Osana Sov]].

Centuries later, Mara confided in [[Alis Li]] that she had engineered the Theodicy War to create a sense of guilt among the Awoken for the charmed lives they lead within the Distributary. She intended to answer that dissatisfaction with her plan to leave and fight in the cosmic war between Light and Darkness.
