After the [[Arrival of the Black Fleet|arrival]] of the [[Black Fleet]] and disappearance of several worlds in the [[Solar System]] due to an assault by the [[Darkness]], Targe began to take extra care of Zavala due to the enormous stress he was under. Targe joined Zavala and "[[Savathûn, the Witch Queen|Osiris]]" at a meeting with [[Empress Caiatl]] of the [[Cabal]] to discuss a possible alliance against the Black Fleet and the [[Hive]]. Targe listened closely to the negotiations but did not interject. Several weeks later, Targe accompanied Zavala on a midnight stroll through one of the [[Last City]]'s first gardens. He believed his stressed Guardian should have been getting a full night of sleep instead of walking but held back his criticism. Zavala sensed Targe's disapproval and stated that he believed a walk in the gardens was just as helpful. Targe recalled when the land had first been turned into a garden in the early days of the City and how Zavala had helped plant it despite just returning from a long and grueling patrol. His Guardian mused on far they had come and what they had survived before staring up at the Traveler and noting that it was all thanks to him. ===Clash with Caiatl===

The [[Clash of the Chosen|conflict]] with the Cabal came to a head soon after when [[The Guardian|the Young Wolf]] defeated Caiatl's champion [[Ignovun, Chosen of Caiatl|Ignovun]] in [[Rite of Proving|ritual combat]], with an armistice between the two sides as the prize. Traveling to Nessus for a ceremony to end hostilities, Targe and Zavala were joined by the Hunter known as Crow, who had been assigned as a bodyguard following the assassination attempt. However, Targe was suddenly shot and disabled by a Light-draining device that left Zavala cut off from the Traveler. One of the Psions accompanying Caiatl, [[Valir]], attempted to strike Zavala down but was stopped by Crow and killed by Caiatl. Targe continued to closely monitor Zavala, now burdened with monitoring frequent clashes between Humanity and their new [[House of Light|Eliksni]] neighbors. ===The Final Shape===

Targe would mostly stay silent throughout [[Operation Ahamkara]]. That was until Zavala would begin to be tormented by the Witness forcing him to remember [[Safiyah]] and [[Hakim]] and his failure to protect them. Finally, after Zavala reached his breaking point, Targe would break his silence and remind the Witness that his Guardian rejected its attempts at recruiting Zavala into the [[Final Shape]]. After the Guardian defeats [[Kataxiia, Tormentor of the Ahamkara]] and secures the location, Zavala would venture off on his own. This would leave Targe worried and would quickly follow after his commander. The rest of the team would follow shortly after.

[[The Guardian]] would assist Targe in finding [[Black Fleet#Veiled Figures|Veiled Statues]] to ask where and how to find Zavala, but their lack of candor in answering Targe would prove difficult to sparse anything from. However would come to realize they were attempting to help. Eventually Ghost would piece together that they're still tied to [[The Witness|the Witness]] and by using [[Darkness]], they could gain the strength to tell what was needed. However none of the statues found would prove strong enough to help beyond instructing one must 'give yourself to Darkness' so they could speak freely. The statues would also warn that without his friends, the Commander would join the Witness' many. Targe and the Guardian would regroup with [[Cayde-6]], [[Ikora Rey]], and [[Crow]] at Zavala's location. Together they'd find Zavala preparing to enter a Darkness pool. Despite his friends' begging, he continues in. In the midst of Zavala facing the Witness, Targe would enter as well and confront the Witness. Shining bright with his [[Light]], Targe tells the Witness that he knows that it is scared. The Witness would grab Targe stating it has done away with fear. Yet still defiant, Targe would once again reaffirm he knows it's scared. The Witness would then crush Targe, releasing his Light and causing Zavala to fly backwards just far enough for his comrades to grab him out of the pool of Darkness and out of the Witness' grasp.<ref name="Dissent"/>

==Personality and traits==
Unlike many Ghosts, Targe did not speak much and did not believe that giving advice was part of his calling, although he often fretted over Zavala's decisions and held back his thoughts.<ref name="EB"/> He was regarded by Zavala to be as silent and steady as a rock.<ref name="S&L"/>
