Royal Wine

Royal Wine is a substance used by Emperor Calus during his time commanding the Leviathan. It is a thick, glistening purple liquid derived from the soil of planetoids consumed by the Leviathan, such as Nessus,[1] that has been mixed with psionics-enhancing spores from plants in Calus's Pleasure Gardens. Due to the abundance of wine produced by the Leviathan, it began overflowing throughout the ship, solidifying into dark purple crystalline substances.[2]
Royal wine would be used prominently by Calus in his Menagerie as an obstacle to be overcome by entertaining Guardians. These particular crystals of royal wine were so dense that only the concentrated laser beam from a Vex Cranium could shatter them after enough focused fire.[3] The armor and weaponry Calus would provide his entertainers upon a successful show were old, reformatted weapons and armor, modified to his tastes, which included crystalized royal wine made into pendant attachments.[4][5][6][7][8][9][10][11][12][13] He also gave his most loyal of entertainers the Shadow of Earth Ghost Shell and the The Emperor's Chosen Jumpship, each also having royal wine decorating their bodies. The Emperor's Chosen in particular is notable for the massive slab of the stuff placed near the back of its hull.
By the time Katabasis encountered Calus in the flesh, the Emperor was contained within a support system that pumped Royal Wine directly into his body.[14]
