Merciless is an exotic Fusion Rifle in Destiny 2. Its main perk is that its charge time decreases and impact increases the more times it fires on the same enemy, making it most effective against enemies with high health.

"The thought was simple enough—sync a weapon's firing and targeting systems to a caged onboard artificial intelligence programmed to actively seek fulfillment of the weapon's base driving function. Simply put, give the weapon an awareness of its purpose. "If the machine is meant to destroy, what would happen if we made it aware of its intended goal? "What would happen if it reacted to any failure to achieve that goal by focusing more intently on defining the parameters of said goal and adjusting its function to more aggressively seek out the successful execution of its purpose? "These are the questions we asked ourselves while engineering the initial prototype. The answers we found—I think you'll agree—were encouraging." – Incomplete record, author unknown

Gameplay Overview
Weapon Mods
Merciless is very useful against enemies with higher health and solar shields. Each hit that doesn't kill with this weapon reduces its charge time, and can eventually be fired fast enough that it looks fully automatic due to its large magazine. It is meant to be a PvE weapon. It has an average performance in PvP, almost like any other normal Fusion Rifle. It can be very useful against a Primeval in Gambit as well as against invaders, making it a very good Gambit weapon.

Merciless has a perk by the same name that if the enemy hit by the previous shot from Merciless doesn't die from it, Merciless' rate of fire will increase until it kills, gets reloaded, or runs out of ammo.
