Monolith creatures

During his expedition beyond the Solar System, the Drifter and his crew encountered strange alien creatures on a desolate, icy planet. These creatures projected a field which suppressed Light and were described as headless, "vacuous," shadowy forms. Many were found imprisoned within monolith-like alien structures, apparently in the form of cryogenic suspension, but others were also found roaming free around the planet.

As a result of the Light-suppressing field they generated, Guardians that died within close proximity of these creatures were incapable of being revived by their Ghosts, resulting in the Guardian's permanent death.

Trivia

• The Drifter's description of these creatures is reminiscent of the mysterious shadowy creatures depicted in Cayde's Treasure Island Book, drawings of which accompany his description of the Collapse.
• The creatures also seem to share some characteristics with Tormentors, notably in that both are apparently headless and can nullify Light; however, the creatures encountered by the Drifter are described as amorphous and being passive in behavior, neither of which apply to Tormentors.
• The planet where the Drifter encountered these creatures is very likely the Cabal Empire's lost Athenaeum World X, based on matching descriptions in the Chronicon.
  • However, it should be noted that the Chronicon, particularly its "future" entries, is likely not a reliable source of information.
