This article is about the goal of The Witness. For the upcoming conclusion of The Light and Darkness Saga, see The Final Shape.

The Final Shape is the name used to describe the ultimate goal of the Witness. It refers to a potential end-state of the universe in which the only entity or entities remaining are those which have demonstrated the ability to defeat all obstacles to their existence, and which will continue to exist forever.

Possible Forms

While what the Final Shape is truly is not known, several Disciples of the Witness have come upon theories on it. An as of yet unnamed Disciple who refers to themselves as the Witness' Weapon believes the Final Shape is truly incomprehensible by those ontologically inferior to the Witness. Nezarec, Final God of Pain believes it is a universe of unending torment and fear. Savathûn, the Witch Queen believes the Final Shape is when the Sword Logic has been fulfilled and the universe has reached the simplest it can be. And Rhulk believes it is a universe of chaos where wanton destruction reigns supreme.[1]

However the accuracy of these theories is unknown.

Although, Savathûn's theory, apparently, appears to be the closest to be true. The Witness states to Calus that they must "extinguish pain"; what this means, is currently unknown.

Due to how ambiguous it was described the Final Shape across the millennia of the Witness and the Disciples' crusade, it is currently unknown exactly what would be the result of the Witness achieving what it had aimed for so long.

While not explicitly stated in-game or lore-wise, it is also possible that not even the Witness knows what is the true meaning behind the Final Shape, and what it truly is.

Also, it is possible that the Final Shape it is not an end-state for the universe as whole, but rather, a sort of creature, of umpareled power and never seen before might.
