The Central Academy Strangelet is a Quest in The Edge of Fate to obtain the Strangelet Capsule in the Central Academy.
Steps[edit]
Step 1[edit]
Locate the Emeritus in the Aionian Campus to obtain more information about the strangelet capsule there.
- Emeritus located
"The Emeritus" is a retired scientist among the Aionians. Theoretically. Practically, he is still hard at work, heading up strangelet research on the Aionian Campus. He'll have the most up-to-date information.
Go to the Aionian Campus to meet up with him and learn what you can.
" You are approached by one of the cowled figures. Their fingers reach out and graze your armor with reverence. They speak musically, intently, and their rapid gestures imply urgency and concern. "
" You gather that some scientists are in immediate danger, and that your weapons are needed at the wildlife laboratory. The figure's hand touch your armor like a talisman as they beseech you for
help. "
Step 2[edit]
Find a way into the Aionian laboratory to rescue the scientists held there and obtain the Acceleron.
- Aionian scientists rescued
It's difficult to fully understand the Emeritus, but what you can gather with your limited knowledge of the language suggests a pressing situation. A team of his scientists have secured an Acceleron, but have been taken prisoner by the Exiles. He is awed by your presence—and in desperate need of assistance.
- Lodi: They're clearly very upset, and I don't blame them. Abduction is terrifying. I still haven't been able to suss out why talks with the Exiles went south. I mean these are poor circumstances for negotiation.
- Ikora: The readings on Kepler are still spiking. The singularity is still a threat. We'll need the Aionians' help if we want to open that lock.
Step 3[edit]
Let the Emeritus know that you have saved his researchers.
- Emeritus contacted
All of the Aionian scientists are accounted for. It appears that the Exiles were trying to destroy their research. Return to the Emeritus and relay the resolution of the situation to him.
- Lodi: That's just as many researchers as the Emeritus said there would be. Don't lose anyone—that's a relief.
- Ikora: I wonder if you might shed some light on something, while we're still learning the language. This settlement is obviously well established—well over decades, if not centuries, but… I see little in the way of weapon emplacements or true fortifications. Has there been no conflict all that time?
- Lodi: That's the gist in getting. The Vex are new and the Eliksni, well, they used to have a working trade relationship. Armed conflict is new for the locals.
" The man thanks the golden ratio for your safe return. The singularity remains stalled, and no Aionian was harmed. The Emeritus clasps your hand in thanks. "
" They add something about food. You're sure it's food but the overall tone of the conversation does not seem to be about dinner. "
" Very soon, they have forwarded you some location coordinates. They want you to save their agricultural centre from an attack. "
Step 4[edit]
Push back the assault on the Aionian Agricultural Center.
- "Fallow" completed
The language gap still limits your understanding, but it's clear enough that the Emeritus is anxious about an attack on their Agricultural Center. It seems like a pragmatic concern—if the Aionians have no food to rely on, the singularity may not be the greatest of their concerns.
- Ikora: You've made great strides communicating with the Aionians. We've learned their language has multiple origins. Little wonder it needs such effort. Understanding comes not a moment to soon. Between the Eliksni and the Vex, the situation here is unstable. And we have so much to learn from them. I've followed your example in translating: script first, then words. The notes you uncovered—unbelievable! The advances this outline in gravitational manipulation, without the Light! And that's only one thesis. I hope some of them, at least, will be amenable to returning to Earth. We cannot lose this connection. We simply can't.
- Note
See Mission: Fallow for a transcript of the mission.
Step 5[edit]
Let the Emeritus know the problem at the Agricultural Center has been resolved.
- Emeritus updated
The Aionian food supply and manufacturing is safe for the time being. Reach out to the Emeritus to let him know. The progress you've made in understanding the Aionian language via Rosetta may help your communication along—perhaps there is now more you can learn about the strangelet capsule.
- Ikora: Lodi, these Vex… you need to know who controls the. Her name is Maya, the Conductor. She was Human once.
- Lodi: What's her objective?
- Ikora: On the surface, to return our current time to a more prosperous one. But her true motive is to reunite with her spouse.
- Lodi: None of those sound particularly sinister, but… I take it it's what she's willing to do to achieve that goal.
- Ikora: Maya has an ability. She can control whoever she pleases. She's controlling the Vex, a normally leaderless faction, and she's even taken hold of our allies to turn them against us. If she's here, she can do anything to get what she wants.
" "Finally, some moments of peace. Thank you for your assistance, Anomaly-Blessed." "
" "A strangelet capsule is almost certainly near. Before all of this, we built the lock as an Altar. A vital ritual has been sealed from us, but is living without our practice truly living? "
" The Altar of Relativity led to a place where it was easiest to detect the Holy Anomaly. We would even bring our Exile friends with us to worship. Please, Anomaly-Blessed. Pass through and stabilize our holy site. "
Step 6[edit]
Speak with Dean Rebecca in the Aionian Campus.
- Dean Rebecca consulted
The elevated Exile activity has the attention of the dean of the settlement. She has come out to the campus to speak with you directly about what's happening.
" "Anomaly-Blessed. I have an urgent request of you. The Exile's have occupied our holy progenitor ship. "
" "The energy readings match hazardous explosive material. The ships remnants still have fuel cells; if they explode it could vaporize the settlement. Why is the Archon making things worse?" "
" "It is an inflammatory attack by a friend lost in madness. He urged the singularity onwards and lights fires to encourage the flames to rise. We all would prefer not to sublimate. Go now, please." "
- Lodi: [mutters] Ay, no. The Exiles have gotten into the, uh… "progenitor ship."
- Ikora: It's the remnants of the colony ship they arrived in. Any vibrational disturbance could dislodge the lock and speed the singularity's growth.
- Lodi: We'd better move fast. Someone once told me a shuttle quarter that size can go up like a bomb.
Step 7[edit]
Protect the Aionian holy site.
- "Nostos" completed
Dean Rebecca is alarmed at the escalation. The Exiles, with whom they used to enjoy a cordial relationship, have targeted their research, their food, and now their holy site. The Archon's actions grow more irrational and more unthinkable by the moment.
Something has to be done, and she needs your help.
- Note
See Mission: Nostos for a transcript of the mission.
Step 8[edit]
Talk to the Emeritus in the Aionian Campus.
- Emeritus consulted
Whispers among the other Aionians indicate that the Emeritus is excited to hear of your successes and may have something more besides.
Go talk to him to see what's on his mind. He may have more information to share.
" "Ah, hello again, Anomaly-Blessed. Your help has truly been invaluable in maintaining what we can. Every inch is appreciated." "
" "Delightful news! Dean Rebecca has information regarding a discovered strangelet capsule. Has she explained what they do?" "
" "Each ring of the Altar of Relativity is chronologically stabilized to prevent any upper dimensional damage from leaking out. Don't worry, when all are in, you'll be able to pass through without your matter smearing across timestreams." "
Step 9[edit]
Speak with the dean in the Aionian Campus regarding the Vex.
- Dean Rebecca consulted
The Emeritus says that Dean Rebecca has more urgent business to discuss with you regarding the strangelet capsule and the Vex incursion.
Talk to her in the Aionian Campus to see how you can help.
" "Thank you, Anomaly-Blessed. In addition to the practical matter of not vaporizing, the site hold sentimental and sacred value to us all." "
" "Out important site is threatened. We appeal to he Voices of the Nine, Lodi and Orin, Future and Past, bodies beating matter and sight beyond linearity. And you, Anomaly-Blessed—fate ordains you help us protect our Graduation." "
" "Please remove the Vex, and whatever of whomever drives them, from the site if the graduation defense ritual. I'll include data on how to access the area." "
Step 10[edit]
Retrieve the strangelet capsule from its resting place, which is currently overrun by Vex.
- "Commencement" completed
The dean of the Aionians says the strangelet capsule rests at a site the Aionians hold sacred—the place where they conduct their graduation rituals. Overrun by the Vex, you'll have to break down their barriers and fight through them to acquire the strangelet capsule.
- Note
See Commencement for a transcript of the mission.
- Orin: They found you so fast. My name is Orin. My name was Nassan Ar, was Nasya Sarwar. What do you call yourself, stranger?
- Lodi: Lodi, pleasure. Miss Orin, do you know something about who brought me here?
- Orin: I know you will be elected to become something impossible. Your molecules have already volunteered.
- Lodi: I'm sorry, my molecules?
- Orin: I was the emissary as you were—are, and will become the same. I quit, and it left me transmuted. I think if I can help you adjust, I can reclaim my mind.
- Lodi: Emissary for who?
- Orin: The beings in your dreams.
- Lodi: You know who brought me here.
