Nazino Island was an island in Russia on the Ob River that acted as a labor gulag during the rule of the Soviet Union, where sixty-seven thousand prisoners were left with little-to-no resources, leading to widespread disease, violence and cannibalism.
Following the Collapse, the river had dried up, leaving Nazino Island a mountain in a sea of trees. Ikora Rey once went to Nazino Island while searching for a lost friend. After finding a spot where lightning had struck more than once, she dug and found a pile of human bones who had been scraped clean of meat. While there, her Ghost Ophiuchus would not speak above a whisper and told her what he felt after finding the bones.[1]
Years later, while writing her examination of the Glykon Volatus and the events that happened there, Ikora reflected on her visit to Nazino Island when considering what true evil was.[1]
