The Portalguards appear in the Psi Ops Battleground: EDZ activity, and will prevent the fireteam from travelling to the next area by keeping their portals from opening. Each of them are protected by an immunity shield, to stop them from being attacked. Players must fight of the incoming hordes of Hive enemies before a [[Lucent Reliquist]] arrives to the battle, who must be killed so you can steal the powerful [[Cleaver]] that they wield in order to destroy the Lightbearers' shields so they can be killed.
