Summoner Hydras are specialized Hydra units capable of calling and pulling reinforcements from deep within the Vex Network.

Gameplay[edit]

Summoner Hydras will behave a lot like standard Hydras, often keeping in a specific position or amongst a squad of Vex to keep it company, while hosing into their opponents with a powerful barrage of Aeon Maul blasts. As opposed to the standard 3 equally spaced shields most Hydras have, however, Summoner Hydras will instead have a single large one similar to that of Hydras from Destiny 1. On top of this slight change, these Hydras also have the unique ability to summon a squad of Vex reinforcements. Indicated by an animation similar to that of The Templar, as well as a baryonic glow from them, a squad will spawn nearby the Summoner Hydra in support of the powerful champion unit. The longer the Summoner Hydra does this animation, the more dangerous the squad will be. Due to their incredible health pool and potential to overwhelm Guardians on higher difficulties, it is advised that Guardians utilize Anti-Summoner rounds or abilities during their summoning animations in order briefly stagger them and weaken them to incoming damage.
