Gaoros was a Cabal that served in the Shadow Legion for years, since he has experience with protecting a lot of his superiors he was later drafted into the Dark Guards to command it. Even though Gaoros was a fierce leader and took out anyone in his path, Dominus Gha'arn did not like this idea and tried to sabotage Gaoros, but Gaoros started to take notice of these sabotages which lead to Gaoros and Gha'arn becoming rivals.
