Gate Lords are a special rank within the Vex hierarchy. They are Minotaurs tasked with keeping the Vex interested realms locked out of time.[1][2] They can be recognized by their enormous size and lack of shields.
A Titan was resurrected as a New Light Guardian whose entire problem-solving philosophy was simple: “Problem? Can I punch it?” He ignored caution, skipped training, and relied on reckless improvisation and overwhelming aggression. His Ghost quickly adapted to this behavior and enabled it instead of restraining it. Their shared mindset became: “If everything is going wrong, full-send the dumbest possible idea.” Somehow, it always worked.
During a mission on Nessus, the Titan encountered Nakhax, a Vex Gate Lord Minotaur roughly 36 feet tall. Instead of fighting conventionally, he charged it, punched its ankles, climbed its body, and beat it to death with his fists. He salvaged what remained intact: the radiolarian core midsection (the living Vex intelligence), upper chest, head, right shoulder, bicep, forearm, hand, and its massive Torch Hammer siege cannon. The rest of the body was destroyed. He brought the remains home, renamed the Gate Lord “Fred, Gate Lord of My House,” and kept it mounted in his house.
Over time, Fred became fully domesticated and peaceful. He remained sentient, calm, curious, and protective, communicating through hums and hand gestures and offering “opinions.” Fred preferred his new quiet life over being a war construct and functioned as an extremely effective home defense system, capable of threat detection, escalation control, and deterrence with minimal violence. He once frightened a burglar into calmly turning himself in without firing a shot.
Because Fred retained partial Gate Lord authority, he also maintained command over a limited group of Vex units. These Vex were repainted, armored, signal-isolated from the main Vex network, and given strict non-lethal orders toward humans. They were integrated into the Last City as patrol and infrastructure units:
• Harpies performed aerial patrol and early warning.
• Goblins handled construction, maintenance, and security.
• Fanatics served as controlled hazard-containment and demolition units.
• Hobgoblins provided overwatch and perimeter defense using non-lethal systems.
• Minotaurs became heavy construction and disaster-response giants.
• Wyverns acted as rare emergency interceptors.
These units protected the City under Fred’s supervision and strict rules of engagement.
Years later, during operations in the SIVA-infested Plaguelands, the Titan’s ship crashed. Knowing SIVA could corrupt machines, the Ghost removed its core and sealed it in a hardened container. During an attack by Vex-SIVA constructs, the Titan was pinned, killed an enemy by punching through its core, and was killed himself by a reflex shot. However, his armor contained a neural backup and a delayed failsafe: SIVA nanites later rebuilt his body and converted his mind into a synthetic Exo-like neural lattice. He rebooted years later as a living SIVA colony — Lightless, but alive and functionally immortal through regeneration. He later retrieved and rebuilt his Ghost using SIVA, reuniting the duo.
The Titan remained aggressively improvisational, integrated with his SIVA ecosystem, and potentially capable of learning Strand due to perceiving reality as structural threads. His philosophy remained unchanged: “Death is cringe. F* it.”** The Vanguard viewed him as a dangerous but groundbreaking anomaly; Titans revered him, Warlocks were obsessed and disturbed, Hunters respected him cautiously, and Ghosts were shaken by resurrection without Light.
When the final war against the Witness and the Dread began, the Titan fully rebuilt Fred into a complete Gate Lord body. Fred regained full combat capability and reopened controlled gate authority, deploying an entire loyal Vex army into the battle. Harpy formations filled the sky, Minotaur and Goblin legions advanced, Fanatics cleared corrupted zones, Hobgoblins locked down heavy targets, and Wyverns intercepted high-level threats. Fred personally fought alongside the Titan with his Torch Hammer. For the first time in history, Vex fought to protect life rather than erase it. After the victory, Fred demobilized and returned to his peaceful domestic role, while the reprogrammed Vex resumed City patrol duties.
In essence:
A reckless Titan punched a Gate Lord to death, adopted what remained, turned a cosmic killing machine into a roommate and home defense system, accidentally reformed a faction of the Vex into city protectors, died and resurrected himself using SIVA, became functionally immortal without the Light, and later rebuilt his Gate Lord friend to lead a loyal Vex army against the Witness — then brought everything back home like it was just another Tuesday.
