The Ruthless and the Merciful[edit]

Koliks stood in the meeting room, right behind Mirks as he addressed the House. Koliks always respected Mirks, the Eliksni took on a role meant for Kells, not Barons. Yet he could never see why Mirks loved Evix so much. Evix was a demon without honor, who hacked his way through his own species with a brutal sword. Koliks hated the fact that Evix was a tactical genius, it made it so much harder to argue against his points to Reniks. After the meeting had adjourned, Koliks approached Mirks. "That was some good speaking out there." Koliks said, putting a comforting hand on Mirks' shoulder. "Thank you, my Archon." Mirks bowed. "Morale is high, we have settled into our new home quite nicely." Koliks nodded in agreement. "Yes, Baron Mirks. Now, I must ask a favor of you. Tonight, Reniks is holding a vote on what to do with the new slaves. I understand your loyalty to Evix, and I know where Evix lies, but I ask you to vote with me. Please, dear Mirks. Just this once, I need you to stand with me. The Salvation troops will bolster our forces against the new enemy...the humans." Koliks pleaded. Mirks' face turned thoughtful and he tapped against the metal railing. "Evix will still have support on this, we will have to see."

As Koliks arrived at the meeting aboard their Ketch, Mirks in tow, he observed the Kell's Throne. It was a large chair, with a window behind it showing the icy shores below. Reniks sat atop it, her head propped up with one of her four hands. One might mistake her for lazy, a leader who never visits their people. Reniks, however, was anything but. She is a devout worker, one who never has time for sleep. The room was occupied by the House's nobility. Periks, a prominent Baron, leaned against a wall in the corner, all four arms crossed. Neriks, the arrogant new House Enforcer was sitting near Periks and desperately trying to get her attention to no avail. The three members of the Fal family all sat the feasting table before the throne, conversing quietly. And finally, the demon himself stood right beside Reniks. The veteran House Enforcer was similar in age to Koliks, albeit he was born on the day of the very Whirlwind. "Koliks, Mirks! Sit please, we were about to commence voting." Evix's grin can be heard behind his respirator, spreading his two arms widely, as if for a hug. Koliks took his seat at the table and Mirks stood by the door.

Reniks raised a hand. "I gather you all here for a vote. What shall we do with the Salvation Prisoners?" She turned to Evix. "Evix would like to share his argument first, and I assume Koliks would like to have a word in next." Reniks gestured for Evix to speak. "Brothers and sisters, this new house is NOTHING. They are weak, they were at their knees to these...Guardians. And yet we have already permanently extinguished three! We will make an example out of these Salvation fools, after learning how to use their...abilities. We will show that the House of Fear is NOT to be messed with! That is all." Evix took a seat in the corner.

"Demon." Koliks hisses under his breath, sitting up. "If we do as Evix says and just kill our prisoners, the other houses could unite against us. Imagine a war with both the Guardians and the united Fallen houses against us. We would be obliterated. And the information, we could learn much of this galaxy. We know virtually nothing, we are in the dark here. Finally, they will bolster our forces. It is much needed in our battle against those they call the Vanguard."

Reniks nodded. "Now, cast your votes. Raise your left hand to vote against, raise your right to vote in favor of killing the Salvation prisoners."

Periks slowly raised her right hand. First vote cast, and Koliks expected it. Periks was as bad as Evix in her ruthlessness. The Fals were next, and their left hand was raised. Koliks grinned. Two votes in favor for his side, he would have to thank them later. However they probably had an alternative motive. Neriks raised his right hand, and I hissed. It was expected, of course: he wanted to please his superior. But he hoped the Enforcer would find some mercy in his heart. Koliks raised his left hand and Evix rose his right to no one's surprise.

And now there was only one vote left to cast: Mirks'. His gaze shifted from Koliks hopeful gaze and Evix's calculating one. He slowly raised his left hand, nodding to me and then Evix.

"So it's decided. The Salvation shall be spared and added to our ranks as slaves. Meeting adjourned."

Koliks let out a laugh. Merciful: 1. Ruthless: 0.

Meeting Aftermath[edit]

Koliks approached Evix in the halls of the Ketch. "You lost this time. Murder isn't the only answer, Evix." Evix laughed. "You're lecturing me?" He asked, turning to face Koliks. "Forgot to ask, how's that bastard son of yours?"

Icy hot rage surged through Koliks and he drew his blade and stuck it to Evix's neck. "Keep my son's name OUT of your mouth!"

"I heard he was coughing? Wonder what that could be," Evix says, his voice cocky.

"I could blow your head off right here, right now." Koliks said, trying to not let Evix get to him. But speaking about his son.
