Faculty Advisement is a side quest in The Edge of Fate expansion unlocked after the ninth step of the Edge of Fate quest. In it, The Guardian and Ikora work to better understand the Aionians.
Steps[edit]
Step 1[edit]
Use your basic understanding of the Aionian language to converse with the Aionian researcher.
- Spoke to Aionian
Though the language is difficult to understand, Lodi has offered his assistance in translating and mediating.
- Ikora: Another lost enclave of humanity. It's incredible. After Neptune, I thought for sure there could be no more. I am rarely so glad to be wrong. We must establish ties with them. Do whatever you can, Guardian. But there is the problem of communication. Relying on Lodi troubles me, as helpful as he is. It would be better to be able to speak to them directly. Even one layer of translation can lose meaning. Nuance. No need to mistrust him on my account.
- Ikora transmats away.
- Lodi: How do you—there! Oh, Guardian! Uh, the Aionians were a huge help when I first arrived. I was… disoriented; they helped me keep my feet on the ground.
- Ikora: We must learn more. Investigate, and I'm sure I don't have to tell you to be polite.
- The Guardian speaks to an Aionian Scientist near the Post Box.
" Anomaly-Blessed Earthlings! What color is your sky? Are lakes drinkable? Are dogs still tame? Apologies, apologies. You must be looking for the dean. "
" "She's at the nearest shrine. The dean is very busy, but if you want to make headway, you'll need her approval." "
Step 2[edit]
You're told there is a monument here that carries great importance to the Aionians. Find it and learn what you can from it.
- Monument located
Learning what you can about the Aionians and their culture will help place them in context for you and endear you to them in turn. Seek out one of their monuments.
- Lodi: The Aionians are a society of scientists. I guess that's what happens when researchers end up on the outskirts of everything and stay there forever. Anyone you chat with will probably send you to the dean. Uh, she nearly had a heart attack when I arrived. Called me "Anomaly-blessed". They call you that too, heh. Their language is tonal, but really distinct—it's like someone put Basque and a theremin in a blender and let it run over a few centuries. Man… Humans are amazing.
- The Guardian locates a Monument To Failure.
" This is a shrine to Failure. Every separate item here has an accompanying log that notes a failure. Some are personal, some a disproven hypothosis. "
" "Test 43A resulted in implosion." "Genetic samples lost to mold." "Forgot to wish Professor Fjola a happy birthday." "
" This shrine is a vow to learn and try again. "
Step 3[edit]
Speak with Dean Rebecca to learn more about the Aionians and how you can help.
- Dean Rebecca consulted
Getting to know Dean Rebecca will be beneficial to how the rest of the Aionians view you. Learn what you can from her.
" "We had the fright of our lives when the Voice of the Holy Anomaly arrived. Even more so when you came. A clear sign this moment is portent in time." "
" "I am studying Vex technology. These beings possess simulation capabilities which could make dangerous research far safer." "
" "You seem comfortable with such risk. Procure samples of Vex for Professor Fjola, and perhaps we can form a partnership. "
" "Your presence was preordained — walk your path with skepticism." "
Step 4[edit]
Collect samples of the local Vex for the Aionians' studies.
- Vex samples collected X/20
Dean Rebecca has indicated that collecting Vex samples will be impossible for the Aionians, but not for you. Gather samples to enable their research.
- Lodi: Guardian, you've met Dean Rebecca. She's my rescuer, your host. She wants our help studying the Vex, and I've only been able to get so far.
- Ikora: I'm not surprised; they're hostile on a good day.
- Lodi: They didn't seem to mind me getting close.
- Ikora: It's odd they didn't shoot you on sight.
- Lodi: Huh. The dean would appreciate help bringing deactivated Vex samples to Professor Fjola.
Step 5[edit]
Return the Vex samples to the Aionian researcher as requested.
- Samples delivered
With the requested quantity of samples gathered, it's time to bring them to the researcher who needs them.
" "Oh! Uh, thank you! Thank you for the research we can now perform, Blessed Earthlings!" "
" "With optimal results, we hope to use this technology to enable us to keep our researchers safe. I appreciate your worry. Carry on." "
Step 6[edit]
Speak with Ghost.
- Ghost consulted
Ghost wants to talk to you about the Aionians.
- Ikora: I have a favor to ask you, Guardian. It's about Lodi. Right now, we have to rely on him—to translate, to guide. But it's too convenient. We find a perfectly suitable ally who just happened to arrive here a little before we did? The Aionians have been isolated. I wouldn't expect them to know about Guardians or the Traveler, for instance. But Lodi seems taken aback to see Exo and Awoken in shared files. Even the Neomuni, sheltered though they were, had those baselines. Where did he come from? Something about him is stranger even that present circumstances suggest. Earn his trust, Guardian. Perhaps he'll be more forthcoming with you.
Step 7[edit]
An offline terminal in House of Exile territory holds data that could be valuable to the Aionians.
- Terminal analyzed
Ikora advises that she's located an Aionian terminal disconnected from the network in territory currently held by the House of Exile. Retrieving the data does the Aionians a favor, and provides you more ways to learn about them and what they're doing here.
Step 8[edit]
Return to Ikora to speak with her about everything that's happened.
- Ikora visited
Ikora has thoughts about your interactions with the Aionians and everything that's happened so far. Return to her to touch base.
- Ikora: The language… will have to come with time. But the things they know… if I could just understand NOW… One step at a time. I have been able to initiate dialogues here and there with the Aionians—not much, but better than nothing. They are patient. I suppose they would have to be. One of them repeated the same thing for me 20 times at least. I couldn’t quite understand: something about… the "Holy Anomaly". And Lodi, maybe? I'll… have to try again.
- Ikora transmats away.
- Ikora: Kepler is two things at once: Suspiciously serendipitous, and deliberately challenging. It's like we were invited to a dinner and sat at our assigned seats without looking at the place cards. Someone wanted us all to meet. So where's the host?
