They disintegrate upon striking their target, releasing the Cabal soldiers within. Drop pods are launched through an electrified rail system. Many years later Guardians would be able to fully utilize Drop Pods to their advantage as through allegiance to the [[Totality Division]], [[Guardian]]s could gain access to the Imperium Drop Pod renegade ability, allowing Guardians to call down drop pods at their location to deal immense damage to any enemies it lands on and deliver ammunition.

*An early design of the drop pod can be seen in [[:File:Red legion warship concept.jpg|concept art]] for [[The Immortal]]. Known as the Ripper Troop Pod, it was oblong with two rows of "teeth" along a central seam. The pod would split in half along its seam on landing, unlike the final version.
*Drop Pods have become infamous and reached meme status due to them seemingly randomly falling out of the sky and killing players. This was referenced in the [[First Contact]] [[Mission]] in [[Lightfall]] where after [[The Guardian]] destroys and flees from the [[Vual Gaudium]] in a Drop Pod. Upon reaching [[Neptune]]'s surface, the player can look back and see they have crushed a couple of [[Legionary|Legionaries]].<ref name="FC"/>
