Nevermind, the point of the Rituals IS to make more Nightmares, but the Dungeon involves these Nightmares being sacrificed to make a dark power. Clearly trying to empower themselves rather than hope the Pyramid still helps them out (after the death of Hashladûn and the theft of their Cryptoglyph).
