Tome of Want: A Primer is an introductory quest for the Tome of Want introduced in Episode: Heresy Act I.

Step 1

Everything you need to know about the Tome of Want is covered within.

The Tome of Want has two functions:

First, it can be used to modify perks within the Tablet of Ruin.

Second, Scriptures can be applied through a Ritual of Desire that focuses additional awards into Episode weapons, armor, and even Exotic upgrade materials.

The Tome of Want is an accessory in your inventory.

Select a Scripture in the Ritual Rites section of the Tome of Want to influence the weapons, armor, and materials that you will receive.

Activate the Tome of Want by infusing it with Essence of Desire.

Acquire Essence of Desire when depositing the Dreadnaught's Metastasized Essentia at the Taken Altar in the Last City.

• Activate a Ritual of Desire using the Tome of Want.
  • Ritual activated

Step 2

While the Tome of Want has an active ritual, power it up by

• Completing playlist and Episode activities
• Defeating powerful combatants in Episode activities
• Defeating other Guardians

After reaching full power, the active ritual will consume a charge and provide a reward determined by the Scriptures used.

Rare Scriptures have an unlimited number of uses.

• Power up the Tome of Want's active ritual to receive additional rewards.

Step 3

The Tome of Want is an accessory in your inventory.

Consume a Crumbling Scripture in the Ritual Rites section of the Tome of Want to further influence and narrow the type of reward chosen by the other Scripture in use.

Crumbling Scriptures can be found in

• Episode activity chests
• Destroyed Sigil Stones
• Metastasized Essentia turned in at the Shaping Slab

While the Tome of Want has an active ritual, power it up by

• Completing playlist and Episode activities
• Defeating powerful combatants in Episode activities
• Defeating other Guardians
• Activate a Ritual of Desire with a Legendary Crumbling Scripture using the Tome of Want, then complete an active ritual by powering it up, consuming charges for additional rewards.

Step 4

The Tome of Want is an accessory in your inventory.

Consume an Amorphous Scripture in the Ritual Rites section of the Tome of Want to receive an Exotic upgrade material reward that is determined by the other Scripture in use. The active ritual will end after providing a single reward.

Amorphous Scriptures can be found in

• Episode activity chests
• Destroyed Sigil Stones

Consume a Crumbling Scripture in the Ritual Rites section of the Tome of Want to further influence and narrow the type of reward chosen by the Scripture.

Crumbling Scriptures can be found in

• Episode activity chests
• Destroyed Sigil Stones
• Metastasized Essentia turned in at the Shaping Slab

While the Tome of Want has an active ritual, power it up by

• Completing playlist and Episode activities
• Defeating powerful combatants in Episode activities
• Defeating other Guardians
• Activate a Ritual of Desire with an Exotic Amorphous Scripture by using the Tome of Want; then complete an active ritual.

Step 5

Earning enough ritual rewards will allow you to use Sigil Shards in order to create additional Crumbling Scriptures directly from the Tome of Want. While the Tome of Want has an active ritual, power it up by

• Completing playlist and Episode activities
• Defeating powerful combatants in Episode activities
• Defeating other Guardians

Completing the ritual will grant a reward determined by the Scriptures used to activate the Tome of Want.
