The Locations in the Red Sea Rift section of M.I.N.D. features entries related to locations within the Red Sea Rift.
Red Sea Rift[edit]
An area with abundant ore deposits and materials salvageable from sunken ships.
The Red Sea Rift is part of Saladin's territory, and its wealth of minerals makes it a logistically key location for the Iron Lords. In recent years, however, it has been the victim of a Cabal invasion.
Veridia[edit]
File 1[edit]
A human settlement built beneath the wreckage of the largest cargo ship in the Red Sea Rift, "The Veridia."
Gareth founded Veridia, a place rich in resources thanks to the Golden Age cargo ships scattered on the dry seabed, during the Dark Age. Despite its small population, Veridia is a self-sustaining human settlement with its main industry centered around mineral extraction. As such, the town is home to a good deal of personnel who support transportation, maintenance, and other services for daily living. Their work all circles back to mining in one way or another.
File 2[edit]
A human settlement built beneath the wreckage of the largest cargo ship in the Red Sea Rift, "The Veridia."
After the death of his friend Gareth, Saladin's strong wish to protect Veridia was fulfilled through Harrow's abilities. This led its people yo discover the Sentinel's hand and Radiancite at the cost of a Cabal invasion, with the aliens brought by the very ore that aided Veridia. This ability also corrupted Saladin, making him paranoid, dictatorial, and unwilling to receive help from Haven and Radegast. Veridia's fate was entirely altered by but one single wish.
Veridia Forest[edit]
A human-occupied region in the Red Sea Rift.
Referred to as a "forest" due to the numerous wind-worn stone pillars dotting it, this place is also home to many caves originally submerged in shallow waters and the remnants of numerous Golden Age cargo ships.
The whole region was once a hub of human activity, but the Cabal invasion forced many people to abandon their homes and gather in Veridia. They are eager to restore their former lives.
The Weathered Caves[edit]
A cave near Veridia that has experienced years of wind erosion.
A broken limb of the Sentinel now rests here. The caverns beneath the wreckage lead to a flat area in the mountain, adjacent to some artificial buildings that seem to be very old and decorated with mysterious patterns.
Oddly enough, the elderly residents of Veridia do not recall these buildings being there before.
Nexus Interface[edit]
A hidden point of connection between the Vex Network and reality, located beneath the Sentinel wreckage. The Vex used this as a passage to invade the Red Sea Rift.
After Harrow accidentally activated the Axis Mind Zephyrus, the Vex launched a full-scale invasion of the Red Sea Rift. Wolf fought hard to defeat it, but ultimately, Zephyrus retreated into the Vex Network. Only by entering the Nexus Interface and eliminating the Axis Mind can Veridia truly be saved from the Vex.
Harrow's Hideout[edit]
A secluded cave not far from Veridia.
Union President Harrow has set up a simple camp here, hoping to shield her mind from the never-ending barrage of voices. She even set up a noise generator to try drowning them out, but it doesn't seem to have yielded great results.
Gareth's Memorial[edit]
A memorial Saladin made for Gareth, located in a secluded part of the Red Sea Rift.
Gareth's belongings were also kept here.
The Drill[edit]
A giant drilling rig the Cabal are using to seize minerals in the Red Sea Rift.
The Sand Eaters' target in the Red Sea Rift is clear: local mineral resources. After driving away the humans who originally mined here, the Cabal expanded the operation tenfold by bringing in their specialized, giant drilling rig, letting them mine day and night. The ore extracted by the giant cantilever and gear-shaped excavation head is sent to the smelting plant called the Foundry, located next to the mine. After smelting, a portion is left to ensure sufficient army reserves, while the rest is transported to Mars to support their war against the Vex.
The Foundry[edit]
A Cabal smelting facility located in Firebase Minos.
When the Sand Eaters arrived at the Red Sea and occupied the human residents' mines, they expanded the original smelting operation and assigned the ruthless supervisor and slave driver, Tog'urk, to manage it. This forgemaster has always been committed to maximizing casting efficiency in order to better serve the Cabal war machine.
Sandbreaker Outpost[edit]
A small Cabal outpost located in front of Firebase Minos.
The Sandbreaker Outpost is located along the essential route between Veridia Forest and Firebase Minos. With it, the Cabal can monitor human military movements and have a rallying point prepared for their troops, making it of extraordinary strategic significance.
The Sand Eaters and the Veridians have been constantly fighting over it during their ongoing conflict in the Red Sea Rift.
Firebase Minos[edit]
A military building complex built by the Sand Eaters once they arrived at the Red Sea Rift. It also serves as their local command center.
This is a typical Cabal military base; the exterior of the building is painted with legion iconography, while the interior houses buildings with different functions such as combat command centers, barracks, tank battalions, and defensive artillery. Trenches have also been constructed around the firebase, but by far its most notable feature is the giant cannon above the base's main building.
Research Center[edit]
A building that hosts the Sand Eaters' research into the Light and its applications.
Ever since he discovered the Sentinel and Radiancite, Commander Buhr has been trying to use the Light to strengthen his army. He even expanded one of the firebase's buildings to accommodate his research and experiments, but due to disagreements with Tog'urk, it has yet to be fully utilized. Perhaps only once his adversary disappears can Buhr receive all the support he needs.
The Minos Cannon[edit]
A giant cannon located atop Firebase Minos.
This type of artillery is standard equipment at many Cabal firebases. Its scale alone is enough to intimidate most enemies, and the cannon is powerful enough to destroy most any threat. Following Buhr's breakthrough in his study of the Light, he developed shells using Sentinel technology capable of destroying Veridia's Light barrier.
Cannon Emplacement Base[edit]
The base of a giant cannon above Firebase Minos.
Although each Valus has their own command style, most would be happy to install a giant cannon when atop their firebase. However, few know about the fatal flaws in the cannon emplacement base's power supply.
Massive Skeleton[edit]
The skeletal remains of an unknown creature perched in the Red Sea Rift. Their size far exceeds that of any creature known to human biologists.
The skull of this skeleton was pierced by the Sentinel's weapon, but its own bone spikes are deeply embedded in the mech's body. After dying alongside its foe, its shattered bones scattered throughout the Red Sea Rift. According to the locals, when approaching these bone fragments, people always hear faint whispers and see strange illusions. Hey believe these anomalies to be omens of misfortune.
Wishing Altar[edit]
An altar Zelpachad hid in the Red Sea Rift. Only those with wishes may approach.
While following Nora's trail, Estela found an Ahamkara's altar on the Red Sea's coral. It was built by Zelpachad and protected by her magic, ensuring only those with wishes to make could access it.
The Sandy Mines[edit]
One of the Red Sea Rift's most famed Radiancite mines, known for its high quality of ore.
It provided Veridia with a wealth of resources until the Cabal's Sand Eaters came and used unstoppable force to occupy it. The loss of the Sandy Mines was the catalyst for the full-scaled conflict that ensued between Veridia and the Cabal.
Following the occupation, the Sandy Mines became a crucial production base for the Sand Eaters. Constant streams of Radiancite are mined here, transported to the Foundry for processing, then ultimately becoming fuel for the Cabal's massive war machines.
