Destiny 2

1-6

Location:

Essence, Earth Orbit

Objective(s):

Prevent a ritual to resurrect the Final God of Pain

The faithful followers of a Hated God gather in the Witness’s Pyramid to revive their master. Face his followers and his creations to deny Nezarec his return.

The Takedown in the Fifth Tomb of Nezarec is a Nightmare Takedown released with TBA. Investigating the resurgence of Nightmares on the Moon and the reason why they are being drawn to the derelict Pyramid ship, Essence, at the behest of Eris Morn and Mithrax, Guardians discover that the Acolytes of Nezarec are engaged in a ritual to rebirth their master. Players must push through the twisted halls of the derelict Pyramid ship and brave the Acolytes’ masses of allied Nightmares, earning Nezarec- themed weapons and armor and, through persevering through some more grim resistance, can earn the Exotic Scythe, Desperate Faith.

Overview[edit]

After his brief return and death at the hands of Guardians during Lightfall, Nezarec’s Acolytes would seek to revive the God of Pain once again utilising the energy of his Pyramid. This led to a surge of Nightmare energy on the Moon, which caught the attention of the Coalition. In an investigation with Eris Morn and Mithrax on comms, they would discover what the Acolytes were planning and order the Guardian to put a stop to them before Nezarec is resurrected.

Unlike Raids and Dungeons, the Takedown lacks heavily mechanic-based encounters, instead, relying on numerous enemies and the progression through them, save for the boss encounters, in a similar fashion to that of Strikes. For balancing, the difficulty of the Takedown will scale to the number of present players and the Fireteam Leader's power level and choice of modifiers. Most prominent of these features is the unforgiving checkpoint system, only offering three save spots: the beginning, after defeating Renfil and after defeating the Nightmare of Acasia’s Love for those who seek to collect the Desperate Faith Exotic Scythe.

Gameplay[edit]

Overlook[edit]

Unlike most other Takedowns, these earlier encounters are more of a way to get players familiar with the general mechanics of the activity. Upon beginning the Takedown, the Fireteam will be seen landing in an area similar to the start of the Root of Nightmares Raid with a red energy beam drawing in Nightmare energy from a point far in the distance, indicating where the ritual is taking place. It is here where the team is free to investigate the abandoned vista, accompanied by conversations from Eris and Mithrax, both commenting on the familiar energies of the area.

Optional Encounters[edit]

Much like the Takedown the Headless Lord, this takedown features optional boss encounters where a team can go off the beaten path and face new/familiar opponents to either freshen up their run with new adversaries and/or try for more loot. Usually, these bosses are hinted at through special requests from Drifter and can be picked up from him before starting the Takedown.
