The Swordbound Exemplar is a massive Taken Knight and serves as the final obstacle of the Blighted Blades encounter in the Obsidian Acropolis activity, where players must use their knowledge of the encounter and how to utilize the Taken Cleavers to break their defenses.

Gameplay

In terms of gameplay and design alike, the Bladebound Exemplar is identical to that of Zulmak, Instrument of Torment, utilizing a massive cleaver to smash down upon Guardians and fire off blasts of Taken energy from their off-hand should they be far enough away. In addition, the towering Taken Knight will also spit off a Taken Burn, coating a considerably larger area in entropic flame. Initially, the Bladebound Exemplar will be protected by an immune shield either requiring light attacks, ranged heavies, or blocks back against the Acolyte's Eyes defending them in order to shatter their protection. Once the shield is broken, the Bladebound Exemplar will also make use of a Slashed Flame Wall to scorch incoming Guardians, as well as create a sunspot at the site of impact against a surface or opponent. After a short period of damage, where the Guardian fireteam should put everything into the Swordbound Exemplar, they will recover their shielding, as well as their composure, entering a far more passive state rather than a berserk and aggressive one.
