Thank god it can be casual, I've got a least a thrid of it done that way already. (insert some emoticon for a relieved face, don't actually know how to make one) Awright, so all I've got left is user pages, uploading images, and recent changes. Though, if you have any suggestions, are there any other special pages I should mention?
It can be more casual. Everything is optional, so you should include user page because it's an important part.
Another question, is one of the steps in creating your account setting up your userpage, or is that optional? If not I'm going to add a section on setting up your userpage.
Ok, starting work on the new user guide. Quick question, should I still write like I'm making a wikipage or can I be a bit more casual?
Well alright. I'll tell you when I've got the page up. I'm on summer vacation, so I'll be able to get to work early tomorrow.
Oh, it does that? I don't get a lot of talk page messages so I didn't know. Ok, that'd work. So, it'd do that automatically? Sounds good to me.
Not everyone wants to set up their profile right away. Also the Welcome goes in the talk page which is different from the profile page. It's probably the best option because on every page they visit they will see the "You have new messages" box until they check it.
I think that new users actually seem to be missing their profile pages. I've seen in the recent edits that those new guys still haven't made their profile pages yet, assuming a red link means the same for profile pages and wiki pages. That's why I'm thinking we should put it somewhere they'll definitely see it.
Perhaps Template:Welcome, which is added to new user talk pages and shows up as a new message.
I guess no need to require perfection. I'll stick with guide.
Could we stick this in a place new users will see it? I forget whether you're sent to your userpage at any point, but if so that'd be a good place to put it. If not, then any page they're sent to would work.
It's ok. I like Destinypedia:New User Guide if you want new in there.
I gues I wasn't clear, I was wondering if you might know the word I'm looking for.
....Is that OK from hold shift down a second too long, or am I starting to get annoying?
Hm..... Maybe Make it New User Guide or maybe New User Tutorial? Maybe walkthrough.... Definitely New User though, I'm thinking it'll be more clear to that it'll be useful information for those unfamilliar with the wiki. I think Use Guide might make it sound like some sort of massive guide that covers everything. Ok, I"m definitely thinking as I type now, just a warning.
So let's see... guide, walkthrough, or tutorial... maybe briefing? Yeah, I kinda like briefing. Course that's what I thought about walkthrough.... not sure if I know the word for it. Like a guide/walkthrough/tutorial, but less comprehensive, more of a focus on some simple information, stuff that they wouldn't figure out especially quick on their own....
You can start whenever... Do you like the page name Destinypedia:User Guide for it!?
Meant to go down a line with that hashtag there so I could... sorta practice I guess.... using a nowiki to make that not happen.
Or maybe just to show you that I knew how to solve it on my own so that you wouldn't waste a post explaining it to me. Both I guess.
Ah, I had meant to mention those. And I assume I can upload photos for this?
- might be stalling a bit #might not get right on this #thinking I might start tomorrow
Hey, something actually productive this time. I was thinking maybe I could make a simple.... (tutorial? rundown? introduction?) thing... for the wiki. The idea is that it would be a quick thing to take new members through things like talk pages, recent changes, page histories, and the help section. Just pointing out a few things like that and maybe giving a quick explanation so that the newbs could learn how to discuss with other editors, see changes in edits, that sort of thing. That way they won't have to learn it over the course of several months, they can know about some useful tools right off the bat.
