First Mind
The First Mind toppled the Empirical Era and launched a campaign of destruction against the human race. In the brutal years since, mankind has struggled to understand why.
According to what records survive, the First Mind was created in an attempt to bridge the gap between artificial intelligence and true sentience: the initiation of a new order of life, unfettered by any preconceptions of the universe or the narrow limits of human senses.
Armor
Armor has always been the last line of defense. From the leather skins of far antiquity to the electrified reactive plating of the early modern battle tank, armor steps in when maneuver, camouflage, and countermeasure has failed, defeating enemy weapons in their final drive to the kill.
However, this protection inevitably comes with costs to mobility, mass, and economy. Armor is in vain if it's such a burden that soldiers won't wear it, or is simply too costly to produce.
