*A Ziggurat is a Mesopotamian building of worship, built as a platform upon which Mesopotamian cultures believed the gods dwelt. It was normally a large rectangular foundation, upon which multiple buildings would be constructed for individual purposes. Throughout history, these buildings would either be demolished or incorporated into foundations to raise the Ziggurat even higher, with a new set of buildings built on top of this extension. This would persist for many hundreds of years, allowing archaeologists to discover the different periods of civilization in the first cities formed by humans, starting from 6000 BC onwards.
*The Ziggurat is a form of tower or temple back in the 3rd millenium BC from ancient Mesopotamian times, which has even inspired the stories of the Tower of Babel in the Bible.
