"If it weren't for her, we'd already be in there," [[Lockwood/Rising|Lockwood]] replies languidly.

The bonfire warms them, making them almost forget that they're on Phobos's front lines.

A massive [[Mars/Rising|orange and red planet]] hovers above their head. If they look up, they can see the plateaus and glaciers covered in craters on its surface. It's like a dream in sepia, a frozen image of a bygone era. [[Ana Bray/Rising|Ana Bray]] forever seeks that ghost from the past. Whenever she feels nervous, she habitually looks up, then buries her head and keeps moving forward.

The dry winds pierce through the outpost's walls. The surrounding area is deathly silent. Ana sits cross-legged at the foot of a leeward wall, facing a stunning array of firearm components laid out on a tarp. The carbon deposits she's currently brushing away from a muzzle blacken her fingers, and the pungent smell of engine oil envelops her. It's both familiar and yet not, as if this is something she's done long, long ago.

Rex sits beside her and offers her a roasted lizard skewer. She shakes her head.

"What, [[Lightbearer/Rising|Lightbearers]] don't get hungry?" he asks.

"I do, but it won't kill me. You, on the other hand…"

"When you put it like that, guess I should thank you for the rations." Rex points the skewer at the gun components. "So, what's the plan for this antique?"

Ana looks at him and puts the stock into its groove with a "click." It's a perfect fit with the buffer tube.

"I still need one last part—up there." Ana gazes up to the rusty planet in the sky. "Help me find it. Then—"

"The weapon's mine. The memories are yours."
