The '''Dune Raiders''' is a [[Cabal]] Legion that serves Primus Lau'urc. Composed of mercenaries, criminals and the most rebellious of Cabal Deserters, they joined with Lau'urc in the hopes of carving a path of liberty from the Empire and will seek out whatever power and technology they can get their hands on to achieve it. Though they have recently allied with the forces of [[Empress Caiatl]] and the [[The Coalition|Coalition]], they are just as likely to come into conflict with them when their plans clash with theirs.

==History==
===Broken Origins===

The origins of the Dune Raiders can be traced back to the [[Taken War]] when Bracus Lau'urc of the [[Skyburners]] was incarcerated in the [[Prison of Elders]]. It was here she found the shattered remnants of the [[Broken Legion]], that had been devastated by the loss of their leaders [[Valus Trau'ug]] and [[Val Aru'un]]. For the next four years, Lau'urc fought in the arena. With every victory, every bested opponent, her renown and respect from the remnants grew. However, agents of the [[Red Legion]] had begun to grow concerned.

These agents had been sent by [[Dominus Ghaul]] to infiltrate [[the Reef]] and disable its defenses for the Red Legion's invasion. They utilized the Broken Legion as a Trojan Horse to easily slip into the Reef. While their plan was successful, many of their followers had begun to follow Lau'urc after Ghaul’s death and their promise that the Red Legion would free them proved false. In time, their leader, [[Forum:Val Gu'uam, Coalition Ally|Val Gu'uam]], would plot Lau'urc's assassination.

In the chaos of the Scorned Barons' escape from the Prison of Elders, Lau'urc and the Broken Legion would also escape by commandeering several Harvesters that had been captured by the [[Awoken]]. They eventually took refuge in a Carrier that had crashed on the asteroid 87 Sylvia during the [[Red War]]. Before long, a skirmish broke out between Gu'uam and Lau'urc's forces over control of the group. Lau'urc and her loyalists would ultimately win, killing two of Gu'uam's commanders and forcing him to flee. Lau'urc went on to take full control of the Broken Legion's remnants, dubbing herself their new Primus, and evict the remainders of Gu'uam's Loyalists while recruiting those willing to serve her. Among them was Thua'urn, who had sided with Lau'urc and warned her of the planned attack before their escape.

===Rise of the Raiders===
In the years that followed, Lau'urc would lead her crew, now calling themselves the Dune Raiders, in looting [[Red Legion]] outposts in and around the Reef to bolster their forces, as well as recruiting deserters and mercenaries from the Red Legion and other Cabal factions like Calus' [[Loyalists]] to their side. They would also begin to work alongside the Spider's Crime Syndicate, offering their services in exchange for weapons and munitions. 

===Coalition of necessity===

During the [[Clash of the Chosen]], Lau'urc would attempt to join [[Empress Caiatl|Caiatl's]] [[War Council]] through the [[Rite of Proving]] by sending her chosen champion [[Forum:Bracus Vanum, Dune Raider|Bracus Vanum]] to assault the [[Awoken]] [[The Watchtower|Watchtower]] on the [[Tangled Shore]] to loot any relics within and gift them to the Empress. However, the Rite would ultimately be unsuccessful as Vanum would be killed by a [[Guardian]] [[Fireteam]].

After the Empress lost the final [[Proving Grounds|Rite of Proving]] against the Vanguard, a splinter of Caiatl's army led by a Flayer named Vraltras would abandon them and seek out the Dune Raiders to join them, bringing supplies, weapons and ships with them. With the supplies accumulated since their escape, Lau'urc's next order would be to turn the asteroid Sylvia into their new base and repair the Carrier, later dubbed the Thanatos Transfuga. With the asteroid's surface clear, they hallowed it out and converted it into Firebase Cerberus with enough room within to store Goliath Tanks and all of their loot. They also converted its moons of Remus and Romulus into orbital gun emplacements for added defense.

However, despite her failure to join the War Council and stealing from her Battlegrounds, Lau'urc was still sympathetic to Caiatl, especially after learning what had happened to [[Torobatl]], as she viewed her as a more caring leader compared to Ghaul and Calus. Later on, as [[the Coalition]] began to form, Lau'urc would express her support to the Empress in the upcoming war against the [[The Witness|Voice in the Darkness]] and its forces. While most of her crew reacted with positivity to this, some like Vraltras and Shumuv were more negative, with the latter even defecting to Emperor Calus.

When the [[Leviathan (ship)|Leviathan]] [[Severing of the Nightmares|returned]] above the [[Moon]] infested with [[Egregore]] and haunted by [[Nightmare]]s, Vov, Vraltras and Vuv would attempt to lead a team to salvage what technology they could from the derelict ship. During which, they would find a [[Nightmare Harvester]] and unintentionally call up Nightmares of the twins' old elder, [[Forum:Nightmare of Travag, the Inferno Conductor|Travag]], and the sisters Vraltras lost in the [[Fall of Torobatl]], [[Forum:Nightmare of Silvas, Pain of Vraltras|Silvas]] and [[Forum:Nightmare of Yinix, Pain of Vraltras|Yinix]]. They would eventually be rid of them when the link between the Leviathan and [[The Lunar Pyramid]], but the incident would come to the attention of the Coalition. Lau'urc would offer data for her [[Forum:Initiation Ring|Initiation Ring]] to be used as a [[Crucible]] arena to apologies.

Following this, Lau'urc sought to move her control beyond the Reef and establish a larger base for her forces. As such, the Dune Raiders moved to claim the Uranusian Moon of [[Forum:Titania|Titania]], building a mighty Fleetbase and deploying many giant mining drills to gather resources. Up to the events of [[Operation Ahamkara]], the Dune Raiders would continue to look for new technologies and ways of making their group powerful, such as Pyramid tech and Arhamkara bones. The former of which would be exchanged with allies in the Coalition.

===A New Era===
====Sednan Opperation====
In the aftermath of the [[Operation Ahamkara|battle]] in [[the Pale Heart]] of the Traveler, the Dune Raiders would begin plundering Pyramid technology from the [[Shadow Legion]] left scattered and leaderless following the deaths of the Witness and [[Emperor Calus]], with some Shadow Legion defectors even joining them. They would also be among the forces that sought to claim one of the  [[Echo (object)|Echo]] that were ejected from the Traveler upon the Witness's death.

Two years after the death of the Witness, the Dune Raiders would pursue the final Echo: the [[Forum:Echo of Paracausality|Echo of Paracausality]], after detecting its signal coming from the Vex [[Machine World]] of [[Forum:Sedna|Sedna]]. Val Thua'urn would be placed in charge of the operation, who established [[Forum:Firebase Poseidon|Firebase Poseidon]] and several [[Forum:Digsite IV|digsites]] as they planned to dig their way into the planet to steal the Echo from the [[Forum:Sol Convergent|Sol Convergent]]. However, they would come into conflict with the [[Guardian]]s also seeking to claim the Echo. After initially retreating from the Convergent Vex, [[The Guardian]] would infiltrate Firebase Poseidon to learn what they could, eventually freeing a Vex copy of [[Gallida Tuyet]] they had captured for study.

Eventually, the Convergent Vex's lead [[Vex Mind|Mind]] and bearer of the Echo, [[Forum:Ouranos, Prismatic Mind|Ouranos, Prismatic Mind]] would be destroyed by The Guardian, destroying the Echo with it. However, pieces of it were rumored to exist and Thau'urn ordered her crew to find them. However, not long after stopping a Dune Raider assault on a Vex data repository, the Guardian would confront and ultimately kill Thua'urn, earning them Lau'urc's ire.

====Resisting the Imperium====
The Dune Raiders would also be among many of the factions that set up shop among the various criminal syndicates on the Martian Frontier. When the [[Barant Imperium]] began making moves for system-wide conquest, Lau'urc would make contact with the Guardian in [[Tharsis Outpost]] via [[Forum:Ca55-1an|Ca55-1an]], offering bounties against the Barant Imperium, the [[Forum:Golden Legion|Golden Legion]] supporting them and the various syndicates whenever allegiances wavered.

During this time, Vov, Vraltras and Vuv would seek to claim the Imperium's advanced technology, such as weaponry and [[Behemoth (Vehicle)|Behemoths]], for the Raiders. This was largely accomplished through looting in the [[Lawless Frontier]] and deals with the [[Totality Division]].

Dune Raider armor is primarily Scout Legion-based, but coloured pale yellow with teal trim and with bits of Red Legion armor, such as wrist blades and jetpacks, grafted on. However, some parts of the Red Legion armor design have been removed. For example, Dune Raider Psions don't have their heads exposed, and Dune Raider Phalanxes don't wield energy shields. But Dune Raider Colossi can have access to Solar missiles and Arc missiles, and be identified by differently designed helmets, similar to Scorn Chieftains.

Commanders and other high-ranking members will feature some iconography and color to signify the legion they once served in. For example, high-ranking Skyburners have a brush on their helmet, and high-ranking Red Legion have War Beast scales on their arms.

The structure of the Legion is largely similar to other Legions. However, while most are purely loyal to Lau'urc, some lower commanders will compete against each other for Lau'urc's favor in the hopes of increasing their own standing. Lau'urc's inner circle of loyal commanders, referred to as her '''Chosen''', oversee specific functions within the Legion, such as pushing into enemy territory and experimenting with gathered technology. If any individual or crew of Cabal wish to join the Dune Raiders, they must renounce any previous affiliation and swear to serve Lau'urc. After which, unless personally recruited by Lau'urc or any of her Chosen, they would need to prove themselves in a [[Forum:Initiation Ring|gladitorial arena]]. Lau'urc frequently encourages those loyal to her to bring Cabal to their side, unless they threaten their cause.

While predominantly composed of Cabal and the various client species of the Empire, Lau'urc has allowed others outside of that to work for and serve them, including Pirate Fallen, renegade Guardians and even [[Nessian Schism|Choral]] Vex that broke free of the [[Maya Sundaresh|Conductor's]] control.
