The Cabal Combatant Encyclopedia section of M.I.N.D. features entries related to Cabal combatants.
Psion[edit]
Soldiers with psychic abilities who hail from a race conquered and enslaved by the Cabal.
Psions belonged to a species with an independent culture until the Cabal conquered them and forcibly incorporated them into their empire. This resulted in the near-complete loss of their traditions and beliefs.
Psions' psychic abilities are only allowed to be used as weaponry in service of their masters. There was a point where, like any other enslaved race, they were denied political rights within the empire. It was only recently when the new emperor ascended the throne that some of them became free citizens and were able to join the army.
Legionary[edit]
Cabal soldiers equipped with pressurized combat suits and heavy artillery. They are the basic combat units of a legion's forces.
Legionaries obey the orders of field sergeants and carry out all manner of tasks in the battlefield with great flexibility, sometimes advancing the front line and other times defending strongholds. Their helmets are equipped with an emergency medical system that uses gel to lessen impact, stabilize injuries, and stop bleeding.
Vigile[edit]
Cabal soldiers who wield shotguns and jetpacks.
Vigiles are riot officers in the imperial police force who suppress slave uprisings on major planets. Their capabilities don't lend themselves to large-scale, front line battles, but their brutal efficiency leads many commanders to incorporate them into as special agents, using their fierce and radical combat style to broaden the legion's available tactics.
War Beast[edit]
Creatures native to Torobatl, which the Cabal have trained as combat units.
These ferocious, violent animals are widely used by Cabal legions for reconnaissance, raids, or as cannon fodder in melee battles. In battle, these beasts launch non-stop, fierce attacks on their enemies, trying to tear their flesh from their bones with their sharp teeth and claws. A War Beast won't let up until either it or its target is dead.
Scorpius[edit]
Automatic turrets capable of firing high-velocity heavy ammunition, often deployed by the Cabal to defend fixed positions.
Phalanx[edit]
Cabal soldiers equipped with huge shields.
Phalanx soldiers are used more for defense than offense, often defending strongholds or blocking incoming fire for their comrades. That doesn't mean they cannot attack, though. When in close proximity, a Phalanx can deliver heavy shield bashes powerful enough to make those who underestimate them pay a painful price for their recklessness.
Incendiors[edit]
Cabal heavy infantry equipped with magma launchers. Spec-ops units within a legion.
Incendiors can use their magma launchers to scorch enemies in a wide range or use sudden bursts of flames to repel nearby foes, making them extremely dangerous enemies at close range. If one can detonate the fuel tanks at their backs, though, they'll get a taste of their own medicine.
Decurions[edit]
A reserve officer position that has existed since before the Cabal wielded firearms.
Decurions are mostly young officers with solid theoretical knowledge but a lack of practical experience. Their responsibilities mainly involve accumulating said experience by guarding their superiors and occasionally leading troops in battle. Their equipment also focuses on defense and long-support range. Advancements in technology have seen their traditional metal armor upgraded to power armor and their javelins replaced by cluster rocket launchers, but the Decurion position itself remains to this day.
Centurion[edit]
A core position commander in a Cabal legion.
Some Centurions are promoted Decurions, but the majority are veterans who managed to survive hundreds of battles. They don armor that balances protection and mobility; this enables them to fight on the front lines, where they defend alongside the Phalanx troops, use Psions to issue orders, and command Gladiators to charge at the right time. Sometimes, they even personally attack enemy lines. Among countless fronts, it is these frontline sergeants who form the unrelenting backbone of the Empire's legions.
Gladiator[edit]
Elite Cabal warriors who wield melee weapons.
The worship of violence is innate among the Cabal, and thus their ancient culture of gladiatorial competitions remains to this day. The winners, wielding blades instead of guns and rising from bloodbaths treated as sport, stand out as superstars among Cabal society and elite melee warriors among the legions's ranks. Once a Gladiator is close, few creatures can survive their blades.
Colossi[edit]
The most dangerous of Cabal units.
Only the tallest and strongest Cabal are qualified to wear such heavy armor, wield such massive Gatling-style guns, and serve as a Colossus. Their hulking bodies make these armored soldiers tower over the battlefield, and the specialized radios they carry let them constantly relay the situation on the battlefield to the command center and deliver instructions to other combat units.
Juggernauts[edit]
Special, heavily armored soldiers equipped with improved high-caliber heavy ammunition launchers.
Even for the hulking Cabal, these high-caliber launchers, which are typically mounted to vehicles, are too heavy. Legion technicians may have greatly reduced the weapons' weight so that individual soldiers can wield them too, but only the strongest Cabal manage to do so—especially given their armor must be equipped with additional decompression devices.
These heavily armed and armored units are called "Juggernauts," a fitting name given their appearance and destructive power.
Goliath Tanks[edit]
Heavy suspended tanks piloted by the Cabal.
Goliath Tanks' main guns are their 110mm "Planet Crackers"—weapons powerful enough to destroy bunkers and trigger shockwaves when fired. They are also outfitted with various light weapons, including machine gun turrets and missile launchers, letting them adapt to various battlefield conditions. The Goliath Tanks' suspension thrusters provide bursts of acceleration and unexpected maneuverability, but they can also be exploited as the tanks' only weak spots.
Interceptors[edit]
Single-unit floating vehicles used for Cabal offenses.
Interceptors can launch two explosive shells simultaneously. Despite being slower than Sparrows or Pikes, their thrusters allow for brief bursts of acceleration. Due to their superior maneuverability compared to Goliath Tanks, Interceptors are often used to combat infantry and lightweight enemy vehicles.
The vehicles provide very little protection for the ones piloting them, so targeting their Psion drivers is far more efficient than trying to destroy the Interceptor itself.
Harvesters[edit]
Heavy transport aircraft used by the Cabal for battlefield support.
The spacious cabin of a Harvester is enough to accommodate an entire Cabal combat squad, and it has enough power to transport a Goliath Tank. Although they are nominally transport spacecraft, some Harvesters are also equipped with homing missiles, letting them provide supporting fire from above after completing their transport duties.
