Osiris is always on my back for spending too much time in combat simulations, claiming them to be completely pointless. I his eyes, combat is just a means to an end, and he's content to avoid confrontation whenever possible.

But what he doesn't understand is just how much I love it.

Sure, I cherish those quiet moments alone with my times and thoughts, but the thrill of battle is a different beast entirely—flexing your muscles, gauging your own strength, sizing up your opponents, feeling the Light coursing through your every vein... Victory is certainly sweet, but the anticipation? It's just as exhilarating.

My knowledge is a weapon, and so is my Light. Both exist for one purpose: to ensure I emerge triumphant.

Ophiuchus said he chose me for the fierce yet serene strength he saw in me—persistent and relentless in the pursuit of my own goals, with a thirst for victory that forbids complacency.

I have to admit, I didn't see this invitation coming.

If Ophiuchus hadn't reminded me, I might not have recognized the strapping, spirited man before me as the Sydney I met back then—gaunt, hollow-eyed, all skin and bones, just another refugee among millions.

I thought I'd grown numb to the mortals' plight, having witnessed so much of it, but when I saw him again and matched his new, joyful face with the one buried in the back of my brain, an indescribable, feverish thrill struck me… and perhaps a touch of happiness, too.

He lives in a small street-side house, sparsely furnished but tidy, with only the kitchen seeming overcrowded—Sydney says he inherited his grandfather's love for cooking. Despite warm meals being a luxury for much of his life, he says that taste is a peculiar experience, unforgettable once savored—and especially vivid when hunger comes knocking.

After checking the IP address, I've arrived at two interesting conclusions:

1. The serial number of the communicator that sent this message is identical to my own.

2. The message was sent from Venus.


However, as you stated, there are multiple obvious falsehoods that could lead one to assume it was a practical joke:

1. I have never set foot on Venus.

2. Neither you nor I know of this "Vanguard" organization, the "door" mentioned, or the bet we allegedly have.

3. My communicator has no record of sending such a message, and both Sagira and I have no memory of writing it.


As you know, the Ishtar Collective was conducting studies on Venus before the Collapse. I managed to get my hands on some info from the more intact research facilities, which detail the existence of something unprecedentedly ancient there—far older than it "ought" to be. They hypothesize the existence of another dimension on Venus, or rather, a force capable of altering time and space.

Regardless of whether this message's contents hold water, I have to say, its writer matched my style to a T.

Thus, I have come to a conclusion—one that I'm sure you, too, have arrived at: this message came from the future.

Or rather, it was sent by my future self.

Just think, Ikora. If I got curious and headed to Venus, stumbled upon this amazing power, and actually managed to open the door to some unknown dimension, would I go in?

===The Gift===

I've often contemplated whether Lightbearers gradually lose their ability to feel over their near-infinite lifespans.

Many Lightbearers are deemed insensitive, and there's a pattern to their demeanor.

It appears that even when it comes to life and death, the principle of "everything in moderation" still applies. After witnessing and experiencing countless short-lived deaths, is it just self-inflicted torture for Lightbearers to invest emotions in such transient lives? Nearly every Lightbearer has asked their Ghost at some point, "Does the Traveler's will truly exist?" And if they haven't yet, then it is only a matter of time.

I still remember the rage that burned inside me the first time I saw civilians die as a result of conflict between Warlords. It was like wildfire, a blazing inferno showing me what I could really do with the Light the Traveler had given me. But as I witnessed history repeat itself again and again, I began to fear—I feared losing that rage.

Ophiuchus reassured me that as long as I still ponder this question, that day will never come.


Though I strive not to let that numbness take hold, I must admit, living so long has changed me.

Time is like a ruler. To me, a day, a week, a month…they're all just measures of distance carved into the surface, almost indistinguishable. I rarely pay attention to specific dates. Time measures my existence in cycles. One winter arrives, while another is about to pass.

However, for the Jiangshi guerrillas, each new year holds special significance. Perhaps because mortal lives have an endpoint, every day, month, and year they draw closer to it is invaluable.

They must have prepared a lot for this special day. I received a whole bunch of handmade presents, each crafted with care—gloves, scarves, and a Ghost-sized sweater hand-knitted by Dolma—she even used purple wool, which was a nice touch.

Ophiuchus wasn't too keen at first, but getting him into that little sweater didn't take much. It seems even someone as headstrong as Ophiuchus can hardly reject a heartfelt gift.

Unfortunately, I'm afraid it won't be with him for long—it falls to the ground when he conceals himself. Clearly, wool wasn't the most practical choice of material.

He breathed a sigh of relief, but I could tell he was slightly disappointed—he liked that sweater somewhat.

I should take a photo of Ophiuchus wearing it and sent it to them—I know they'd appreciate it.

===The Cosmos===

I love this place, the Space Elevator—it makes me feel as if I've escaped Earth's gravity and left the planet behind, as if I'm floating through the cosmos, cradled by the stars.

Gravity is one of the sources of Void energy. It's a force I've repeatedly experience and learned to wield, as if tracing the orbits of planets within my own miniature universe.

I've seen the images and recordings left by past astronomers, and I've looked up to the stars through the telescope at the museum's observatory. They are beautiful, yes, but they are not the true face of the universe, seen with my own eyes after passing through the atmosphere.

Down on Earth, the sun and moon are mere components of the sky, like the hands of a clock, or elusive and distant motifs upon an immense canvas.

And now, with my feet having left the Earth's surface and gravity's pull on me having weakened, it's as if I no longer belong to Earth—an incredible feeling. Gravity is a thread that binds me, yet also keeps me safe. And with it severed, I'm able to observe Earth and the world around me from a wider, more free perspective.

But alongside that sense of awe is also heartfelt fear.

This fear stems from the boundless vastness of space, the unbearable feeling of weightlessness, the eternal silence, and the blinding sun, which becomes even harder to gaze upon without the atmospheric barrier shielding one's eyes.

The sun's massive size and scorching heat make it a terrifying force, one that reminds those who witness it of their own insignificance.

Within the cosmos, I am alone, and yet this solitude differs from that experienced in Earth. It is quieter. It is more straightforward. It has more presence.

I'm very lucky to have Ophiuchus as my companion.

He told me that, if we eventually leave Earth and embark on a journey across the stars, he would like our first destination to be Venus, a world vastly different from our own. There, the sun rises in the west and sets in the east, and we would need to wait 117 Earth-days to witness both phenomena.

"Fortunately," he said, "I'm a Ghost, and you're a Lightbearer, so time is no issue for us, right?"

His words harbor the unique ability to free my heart from its fear and loneliness, then bring it back to my chest, filled instead with hunger, curiosity, and ambition.

Of course, my eyes can only see so far; what I perceive is just a fraction of the solar system, which is itself just a fraction of the Milky Way, and there are countless such galaxies residing in this seemingly infinite universe. The cosmos is vast and magnificent, and I am profoundly ignorant, yet curious about every corner of it.

The Traveler gifted me a near endless lifespan. Perhaps the true significance of that time remains hidden in one such inconspicuous corner.

Someday, I will leave Earth and visit every planet in Sol, then the Local Bubble, and the Orion Arm... I will measure and understand everything with my eyes and footsteps. I will learn, think, and discover the truths of the universe for myself.
