Overview

This section needs expansion. You can help Destinypedia by expanding it.

The IP-C SC Capital Star-class Eclipse is one of two ships of the class whose specific function is for long interplanetary journeys. Being over four thousand five hundred meters long (the engines and fuel tanks adding the extra eight hundred meters) these ships are largest and most technologically advanced spacecraft ever built. They have to be for the cargoes they carry are infinitely precious to the City, being the difference between life and death. They also have to be big to carry all of the mining equipment and technology needed for the Titanian Expedition to function, not to mention carrying upwards of over three thousand men and women, and as such they are partial hybrids of space-station and spacecraft.

When launched the IP-C SC Capital Star-class ships are sent outward from the system in a long, elliptical flight path in order to reach Titania which is pulled about on a somewhat erratic yet stable (and therefore predictable) course by the trinaries’ gravitic influence, making it impossible to reach by normal craft. Fortunately these orbital stresses do not cause any significant surface distortions, and the Expedition is safe.

A rough description for the IP-C SC Capital Star-class vessels can be summed up as an unnaturally long grappling hook or harpoon. Four vast wings nearly six times the size of six tractor-configured engines fan out as spines in an X-wing alignment, glowing red when the primary engines have fired. A series of lesser, progressively shorter spines line out behind the primary ones. When not in use they fold down along the ship’s longitudinal axis. A mast sticks out at the extreme forward end, containing the revolutionary photon sail.

Connecting these massive instruments of propulsion and ventilation is a long tensile truss, the body of the harpoon. Roughly halfway along its thermally-shielded length are the cargo-pods which carry the ship’s primary payload: the energy crystals of Titania. Immediately afterward are the robotic arms and ship ports, arranged in a complicated array designed for ferrying goods and men to and from a planetary surface. Further along, two-thirds the tensile truss, are the twelve crew modules which deliver miners and soldiers to Titania, along with the ship’s crew to keep her running.

Placed strategically along the tensile truss are the all important “pebble-killers” and drone modules. These defend the ship from threats that may endanger the vessel. Toward the ship’s “aft” are the communications and solar arrays, and finally the five immense Whipple shields, which protect the vessel when the laser array propels her up to speed. A centrally-mounted axial cannon protrudes out from the center of the Whipple shields for long-range combat, capable of launching projectiles at immense speeds.
