Zephyrus was originally a subordinate to the previous leader of Tharsis Reformation, 984-Krios. After a newcomer Goblin bested Krios at a game of cards, Krios accused them of cheating and ordered Zephyrus to "reclaim" its radiolaria. Zephyrus refused, stating that it wasn't substantiable to perform executions so frequently. When Krios reminded him that he was the boss, Zephyrus challenged him to a game of Russian Roulette for leadership of Tharsis Reformation. As Zephyrus played, pointing the Hand Cannon between his and Krios's cores, he would critique his leader's fixation on winning even at great detriment. When Krios told him that he would lead the Reformation to destruction, Zephyrus retorted that he would lead them to freedom by embracing uncertainty, free to make their own choices and openly express themselves before their unforeseen end, which the other Reformation members aside from Krios agreed. Ultimately, Zephyrus killed Krios with the sole bullet in the Hand Cannon, stating they were now free of him as they were from the Vex's "pattern" and Conductor.

Personality and traits
As a Vex, Zephyrus is absent of emotions in the traditionally understood way and can often come across as cold, yet is very in touch with syndicate culture, seeming to be patient yet tactical with when he chooses to make moves. He also seems to be the most amicable of the Tharsis crime bosses with the Last City, as he and his syndicate were the ones who helped recover and document all the Guardians and Ghosts lost in the Tharsis Massacre attack. Zephyrus also doesn't seem to be one to hold a grudge when the Guardian can often betray him for another syndicate and can often interfere with his plans and kill his gang members, rather he simply allows syndicate politics to unfold.
