===History===
Like most Exo, Cayde remembers little about his past before the Collapse. However, he remembers enough to provide substantial information, albeit he admits the order is out of sync. Cayde used to be a human soldier with a large debt over his head, when he was approached by Clovis Bray to have his debt removed. The job offer itself isn't explicitly stated, but what Cayde remembers next is coming to Europa where he was converted into an Exo. Cayde's Letter Fragments in Destiny 2 reveal that Cayde had a wife and a son whom he nicknamed "Ace", he threw his life away gambling, and that his only means of escape was to sell himself to Clovis Bray's Exo program. Next he remembers being assigned as a security officer to the Ishtar Collective, where his job was to look after Dr. Maya Sundaresh. Though he wished to get to know her better, she barely noticed him. Afterwards, he remembers being restrained by a shadowy creature on a destroyed world, followed by another memory which he describes as not his own.[3] He was found with a journal containing Ace's name on his person after being revived by his Ghost, and that Cayde kept writing to him despite not remembering him and that his son was long dead.

Cayde-6 was once a daring and adventurous Guardian, so of course he couldn't say no to a challenge - not even the notorious Vanguard Dare. He lost the bet, to his immense regret. What the bet was over is unknown but Cayde took over as the Hunter Vanguard when his predecessor and close friend, Andal Brask, was murdered by the Fallen mercenary Taniks, the Scarred. Though Cayde serves dutifully, he yearns to return to the field, in particular having his eyes set on the mythical Vault of Glass.[4]

Cayde-6's role in the Vanguard is to track and assign bounties to high-value targets. He tasks guardians with eliminating the escaped Aksor, Archon Priest as well as the Psion Flayers.[5]

Cayde-6 plays an important role in The Taken King, aiding the Guardians by forming a plan to infiltrate the Dreadnaught.[6] He worked behind Zavala and Ikora's backs to help the Guardian recover a stealth drive he stole from Rasputin, and then sneak aboard the Dreadnaught using a ship he "borrowed" from Eris Morn. For the remainder of the war he worked with Eris, much to their mutual distaste but nonetheless cooperated to bring down Oryx. By the next Festival of the Lost, Eris still holds a grudge against Cayde for losing her ship, for which he tries to make it up to her. However, she won't accept his apology unless Cayde finds her a new ship.

During the Dawning holiday, Cayde "volunteers" his aid and support to Ikora Ray and the Guardians when they are called to defeat old foes that returned, Omnigul and Sekrion, Nexus Mind. Though he did support the Guardians, Ikora knew that Cayde was only volunteering his support to get out of directing a team of Hunters that didn't like him. Even so, he congratulates the Guardians for ridding the system of old foes.

Recently Cayde made a bet with Lord Shaxx regarding the outcome of a Crucible match. Having won, he forced Shaxx to train some of the City's children to play dodgeball. Though Shaxx tried to pay him off, he chose the idea of annoying him over Glimmer.[7] When Cayde returned to tell Shaxx his debt was paid, Shaxx immediately bet against him again. Confident he would win again, he was distracted enough for one of Shaxx's charges to show off their stealth training by sneaking up on him and hitting him with a dodgeball. Embarrassed that he was taken by surprise, Cayde offered Shaxx a ride back to the Tower.[8]

====Destiny 2====
During the invasion of Dominus Ghaul, Cayde assists the Guardians in fending off the invading Red Legion soldiers but ultimately he and the rest of the survivors are forced to evacuate the Last City after its light is sealed away from the guardians. He eventually fled Earth and somehow became trapped within a peculiar Vex construct on Nessus, apparently after attempting to steal it from the Vex to utilize in a plan he had devised to infiltrate Ghaul’s ship and reclaim the Last City. Before getting trapped, Cayde encountered a damaged Golden Age AI, Failsafe, who aided him in finding what he needed. Cayde hoped to steal a Vex teleporter for the purpose of getting close enough to Ghaul to kill him but the Vex captured him in a continuous loop. The Guardian traveled to Nessus to find Cayde to reunite the Vanguard on Zavala's orders, and discover Cayde trapped within a continuous loop caused by the Vex teleporter that he had been tinkering with and worked with Failsafe to free him. Succeeded in doing so, Cayde ended up on Exodus Black with the device he was after but a large Fallen force was nearing their position. Thankfully, the Guardian arrived and routed the Fallen. Meeting up with Cayde, he was at first only interested in doing his solo mission on killing Ghaul but quickly changes his mind after hearing the Zavala "needed" him. Before departing, Cayde gives the Guardian a lead on where to find Ikora Ray, he states that they should head to Io, as he believes she would travel there for answers.

Meeting up with his comrades on Earth at The Farm, they discuss a strategy in liberating their home and taking down The Almighty warship that will destroy their system's sun if not stopped. Zavala plans to have the Guardian infiltrate the Almighty to permanently disable the warship while the Vanguards forces sneak into the Last City as Cayde mentions the Vex teleporter. They would use the device to quickly travel to the Cage to free the Traveler. Despite the appearance that an all-out attack is doomed to fail, Cayde states that its worth it no matter what. Suraya Hawthorne enters and provides both the means to get into the City undetected and how to get the Guardian to the Almighty. The Guardian would steal the security pass and ship of Thumos, the Unbroken. Cayde and Zavala guide the Guardian in breaching Thumos' defenses but gets a little jealous that the Guardian gets to use a Drake Tank. Regardless, the Guardian succeeds in breaching the Cabal's defenses and takes down Thumos. With his ship, the Guardian reaches the Almighty and disables it for good. On that cue, the Vanguard initiates their attack to liberate the Last City. Cayde uses a pet chicken to stage seven ambushes and later travels past a Cabal checkpoint to set up the Vex teleporter. Cayde encounters trouble while he sets up the device. As the Guardian returns and races to the Vanguards position, Cayde successfully sets up the device but loses an arm in the process. The Guardian succeeds in using the device to reach Ghaul's command ship, the Immortal, near the Cage and battles with the Dominus. The Guardian defeats the Cabal dictator and in the chaos, the Traveler awakens who destroys Ghaul forever. In a massive flash, the Light is restored to all Guardians, driving the leaderless Red Legion from the City. With their home reclaimed and the Traveler awake, the Vanguard regroup near the ruins of the Tower. Congratulating the Guardian, Cayde and his comrades begin their work in rebuilding the City and dealing with the present threats that continue to linger in the System.

Taking residence at the new Vanguard hanger, Cayde provides patrol and Flashpoint missions to the Guardians while offering treasure maps to some of his stashes. At times, Cayde grows increasingly bored with the paperwork he's been given and even some of the adventure and Strike missions, often attempting to delegate such tasks to Hawthorne or Devrim Kay, annoying them.

===Tactics===
Cayde is armed with his personal [[Hand Cannon]] of choice: [[Ace of Spades]]. This revolver is incredibly deadly and can kill any [[Guardian]] with three shots in less than a second at close to medium range; it will take one extra shot at longer distances. He will deploy the usual Hunter tactics of double-jumping over and strafing around the player, although he is faster than a normal Hunter when doing this. When faced at point blank, he will use his knife to retaliate, and it can kill Guardians in as little as two swipes.

During the first phase of the encounter, Cayde will use the abilities of a [[Gunslinger]]. He will be shielded by [[Solar]] energy, throw Swarm Grenades which send out smaller seeking submunitions, toss throwing blades which inflict a burning effect upon impact, and gain increased fire rate and accuracy when dodging near the player. If his shield depletes, he will be vulnerable to damage but become enraged and pull out akimbo [[Golden Gun]]s which fire slow-moving but deadly bolts which instantly kill Guardians at any distance. Cayde will remain in this state for 30 seconds at a time until his shield recharges. When his health reaches 66%, he casts a [[Light]] Switch and adds [[Void]] Light abilities to his rotation of attacks.

Cayde will start the second phase of the fight with the abilities of a [[Nightstalker]]. He will be shielded by Void energy, throw Smoke Bombs which inflict a disorientation effect, and turn invisible when dodging near the player. If his shield depletes, he will draw a [[Shadowshot]] Bow and continuously fire large Void arrows which either cause an instant kill on impact or create a trap after hitting a surface, which tethers and suppresses opponents. Cayde will remain in this state for 30 seconds at a time until his shield recharges. After using Shadowshot, his shield and ability type swaps to Solar. When his health reaches 50%, he casts another Light Switch and adds [[Arc]] Light abilities to his rotation of attacks.

For the final phase, Cayde will use the abilities of an [[Arcstrider]]. He will be shielded by Arc energy, throw Skip Grenades which create aggressive seeking submunitions, and gain increased strafe and sprint speed when dodging near the player. If his shield depletes, he will summon an [[Arc Staff]] which unleashes multiple melee combos on the ground and creates an area-of-effect field upon a downward aerial slam. Cayde will remain in this state for 30 seconds at a time until his shield recharges. After using Arc Staff, his shield and ability type will swap to either Solar or Void, and will continue to swap damage types until he is defeated.

===History===
====Time in the Wild====
She started her career as an iconoclastic Guardian, with a reputation for being outspoken and impatient with the dogma of her peers. She had a very colorful life on the battlefield, whether fighting in the Crucible or doing solo missions and getting shot down repeatedly, surviving against all odds. Her experience gave her a wealth of knowledge and newfound respect among her fellow Warlocks.[2] Even so, she apparently has a reputation for being scary, including a rumor that she can turn people into frogs.

====Disciple of Osiris====
Eventually, Ikora became a student of Osiris, arguably his greatest one. However, after her mentor's arrogance and obsession with the Vex grew out of control, she personally oversaw his exile from the City.[3]

====The Rising Darkness====
Ikora's role in the Vanguard is to study enemy threats, particularly any unconventional threats posed by the forces of Darkness, and is typically the first to react to them. She employs a group of spies called The Hidden to go behind enemy lines, serving as her eyes and ears. Ikora is the only one who listens to one of these spies, Eris Morn, whom others call mad or avoid out of fear. She tasks Guardians with stopping construction of The Nexus on Venus, the summoning of Phogoth on the Moon, and the attempt to return the Black Garden to the Darkness.[1]

====The Calm Before====
During the events of The Dawning, Ikora Rey tasked the Guardians in eliminating old foes that have returned, Taniks Perfected, Sekrion, Nexus Mind and Omnigul. During so, Cayde-6 "assists" though Ikora knew he was only helping because he was both bored and attempting to get out of coordinating a team of Hunters that didn't like him. Regardless, both aided the Guardians in eliminating their old foes.

====Fall of the Last City====
Ikora assists in fighting against the Red Legion invasion and after the Tower's civilians were evacuated, Ikora went in search of the Speaker only to find him missing. After the Traveler's Light was sealed away and the City became occupied by Dominus Ghaul, she later retreats to Io in an attempt to reestablish herself after the events of the invasion.[4] Once the Guardian arrives and she learns of what has transpired in her absence, she returns to Earth to help her fireteam plan to retake the City.

====Reclaiming the Last City====
During the attack, Ikora leads a unit using sparrows to confound troops and create an opening for the other teams to enter the City. Once the attack begins, she regroups with Cayde and Zavala to teleport to Dominus Ghaul's location. Unfortunately, the Vanguard was too badly wounded to go themselves, and the Guardian is sent in their place. Once Ghaul is defeated and the Traveler reawakens, Ikora returns to work leading the guardians and watching over the recovering City.

====A New Golden Age====
"When the Red Legion attacked, it almost cost us everything. It took a miracle to save us… the awakening of the Traveler. This is our new beginning. The maps are blank. The rules are gone. All we know is we must become more than what we were. This small corner of the cosmos is the only place that is forever ours. And the universe watches us with envious eyes. We've proven we can fight threats from beyond the stars. But now there are things stirring beneath our feet… provoked by the Traveler's Light. Our war… is just beginning."

As the City began to rebuild under the awakened Traveler, Ikora met with the other members of the Consensus to discuss the governing of the City. When Executor Hideo objected that they could not be called to order without a Speaker, Ikora prevented Cayde-6 from escaping the meeting and declared that they had to meet despite what the bylaws said. Lakshmi-2 asked if there was a protocol for choosing a new Speaker, and after Zavala revealed that there was not one, Ikora advocated amending the bylaws to create such a process. Zavala declared that until they had a new Speaker, they would all govern together and forge their own consensus without a Speaker's aid.[6]

The awakening of the Traveler caused Ikora to reexamine all of her old research, particularly her twelve volume series "On Circles". Foregoing field work, Ikora spent long periods studying in her hidden private library. One day, Chalco Yong, a member of Ikora's Hidden, snuck into the library to see what Ikora was doing. Without stopping her research, Ikora acknowledged her friend and noted that she had to completely rewrite all twelve books in the series due to the Traveler awakening and changing their understanding of physics. Chalco was skeptical that the Traveler would so radically change their understanding of circles, causing Ikora to finally look at her and state that especially their conception of circles had changed.[7]

====The Curse of Osiris====
When rumors of strange activity on Mercury started to surface from the Cult of Osiris, Ikora ignored it, dismissing them as mere conspiracy theories. However, one of her Hidden then brought her Sagira, who was found badly damaged and deactivated at the same time Vex activity surged dramatically. Ikora summoned the Young Wolf and asked them to investigate these developments in secret from the rest of the Vanguard due to the potential involvement of her former mentor Osiris. As the Young Wolf traveled to Mercury, Ikora explained to them that the Vex had replaced the core of the planet with a machine known as the Infinite Forest, which could calculate infinite realities. She was displeased when Brother Vance made contact with them, dismissing him as Osiris' "greatest fan". Vance claimed that his faith in Osiris had led them to him, causing Ikora to mock him for having faith in a man who questioned everything. After the Young Wolf investigated the Vex activity around the entrance to the Infinite Forest, Vance suggested that they take Sagira to a Cult of Osiris outpost on Earth that could help heal her.[5]

With the new revelations about the nature of the Vex, Ikora began furthering her research of them. She was disappointed that the Young Wolf's presence at the beginning of the Infinite Forest did not reveal an understanding of the Vex. As she pondered the nature of the radiolarian fluid and dismissed it as being the Vex's consciousness, Ikora wondered if she had discounted Laskshmi-2 and the Future War Cult's device too quickly since the key to understanding the Vex might be exploring their ability to predict and simulate timelines. She turned to her Ghost, Ophiuchus, and asked their opinion, catching her companion off guard as they had not spoken in more than sixty-one years. Ikora noted that they were friends once, and that she was ready to hear Ophiuchus' opinion again.[8]

===Tactics===
Ikora's main weapon of choice is her Conspiracy Theory-D [[Shotgun]], which deals immense damage at medium range due to its unique model; it can burst through a [[Guardian]]'s shield in a single shot and deplete their health in another, although its impact and range are balanced out by its slow fire rate. For aerial movement, she can glide through the air with bursts of speed, employing a tactic known as "Warlock surfing." Occasionally, she will use rifts to increase the health and damage for herself and any ally that passes through them. When faced at point blank, she can uses varying Warlock melees with different elemental effects, although the common trait they all share is their reach; Ikora's melee attacks have the farthest range of all the Vanguards.

During the first phase of the encounter, Ikora uses the abilities of a [[Voidwalker]]. She will be shielded by [[Void]] energy, be able to teleport using Blink, use a melee attack that periodically drains the target's health, and throw Axion Darts. If her shield depletes, she will unleash a barrage of slower moving [[Nova Bomb]]s which track their targets and create miniature seeking projectiles upon detonation. She will sustain this attack for 30 seconds at a time until her shield recharges. Upon reaching 66% health, she will cast a [[Light]] Switch, and her shield and ability type swaps to [[Solar]].

In the second phase of the fight, Ikora will have the abilities of a [[Dawnblade]]. She will be shielded by Solar energy, throw Solar Grenades which create large spheres of flames upon detonation, and use a melee attack that causes a brief burning effect. If her shield depletes, she will unsheathe a [[Daybreak]] [[Sword]] that grants its user the ability to fly through the air and rain down high-damage Solar blasts from above. She will sustain this attack for 30 seconds at a time until her shield recharges. After using Daybreak, Ikora switches back to Void. Upon reaching 50% health, she will cast another Light Switch, swapping her shield and ability type to [[Arc]].

For the final phase, Ikora toggles the abilities of a [[Stormcaller]]. She will be shielded by Arc energy, throw Storm Grenades which call down focused lightning strikes upon detonation, and use a melee attack that inflicts a heavy shocking effect. If her shield depletes, she will chain electricity together via [[Stormtrance]], using deadly streams of electrical energy to kill her opponents almost instantly. She will sustain this attack for 30 seconds at a time until her shield recharges. After using Stormtrance, her shield and ability type will swap to either Void or Solar, and will continue to randomly swap damage types until defeated.

Zavala was born sometime before the Collapse, and was revived by a Ghost into a Guardian. He traveled to the famous camp that would eventually become The Last City, helping to build the city alongside people such as a younger Speaker.

Zavala eventually became a student of Lord Saladin Forge, and fought in the Battle of the Twilight Gap.[2] Later, after parting ways with Lord Saladin, he was a competitor in the Crucible.[3] As Commander, multiple factions have approached him to try and gain his support. In particular, he was approached by New Monarchy via Executor Hideo, and was offered to be made king of the City if he had joined their faction, but he refused,[4] likely not wanting to reignite the Faction Wars (see quote below). He also turned away Arach Jalaal when he pleaded with him for support.[5] However, he did vouch for Future War Cult's inclusion into the Consensus, considering their focus on combat more useful to the City than dangerous.[6] When his predecessor as Vanguard Commander, Osiris, tried to broker a contract between the City and a mercenary group of Titans called the Sunbreakers, Zavala found the terms of the deal unacceptable and rejected it, causing the Sunbreakers to hate the Vanguard and Zavala. In return, Zavala erased nearly every mention of the Sunbreakers from the City's records.[7]

====Destiny====
Zavala's role in the Vanguard is the overall defense of the City and military strategy against enemy forces, both on Earth and abroad. He tasks Guardians with a preemptive strike against the House of Devils by killing Sepiks Prime, as well as recapturing Freehold by eliminating the Cabal chain of command.[8]

====The Taken War====
Mending Relations with the Sunbreakers
"A Sunbreaker's fire has not been seen in the City for years. Their association with Osiris, the stupidity of our youth... it all seems so long ago."

With the threat that the Taken posed to the solar system, Zavala began to consolidate all Vanguard forces and sought to rebuild relations with groups that had left or been exiled from the City. Amongst these groups were the Sunbreakers, an order of Titans who utilized Solar Light and had close ties to Osiris. Having rejected a deal with them long ago, Zavala now regretted that decision, and upon learning that a legion of them had been spotted for the first time in years in the Ishtar Collective on Venus, he requested that The Guardian serve as his representative and meet with them. Monitoring the Guardian's progress, Zavala detected a Sunbreaker beacon that was intermixed with a Vex signal, and discovered it contained a message from Ouros ordering a retreat through a Vex gate and that the Sunbreakers had been there for a task related to Osiris. The Guardian subsequently learned that the Sunbreakers managed to open the gate and flee to their Forge on Mercury.[9]

As the Guardian headed to Mercury, Zavala admitted that he was responsible for the schism between the Vanguard and the Sunbreakers, and warned them that they hated Zavala. Tracing the Sunbreakers to The Burning Shrine, the Guardian impressed Ouros and was granted the power to utilized the Hammer of Sol, along with any other Guardian who proved worthy. The Guardian returned to Zavala, who lamented the exile of the Sunbreaker's and reflected on the mistakes of his youth. He was glad that their fire had now returned to the City and would once again keep it safe, strong, and warm.[7]

Zavala helped the Guardians fend off the Red Legion during their massive invasion, but when their cage cut all Guardians off from their Light, he was forced to flee Earth. He flew his ship to Titan, where he was joined by Sloane, and began calling all surviving Guardians to rally there. Too late, he learned that the moon was infested with Savathûn's Hive, leading to many deaths among the Light-less Guardians. That failure forced Zavala into a depression, wondering if without the light, are they even Guardians anymore. Fortunately, one Guardian managed to regain their Light and fight off the Hive on the Arcology power stations, giving the Vanguards forces a temporary base and Zavala hope once more. After sending the Guardian into the New Pacific Arcology to procure a CPU to decrypt high-level Cabal transmissions, Zavala learns about The Almighty, a massive Cabal warship constructed to destroy suns and it has been placed outside of the Solar System's sun. While most despaired on the hopelessness of the situation, Zavala's resolve remains strong, declaring that with what was left of the Vanguard's forces, they would launch an assault on the Almighty but before he does so, Zavala states he needs his old fireteam. He needs Ikora and Cayde.

Sending the Guardian to find the Hunter and Warlock Vanguard, they succeed in finding them while disrupting Cabal operations in the System. Zavala is reunited with his comrades on Earth at The Farm where they discuss a strategy to take down the Almighty, liberate the Last City and free the Traveler. He learns from Ikora that they cannot destroy the Almighty without causing a chain-reaction that would destroy the sun along with it. Nonetheless, Zavala suggest they get the Guardian on board to permanently disable the Warship while the Vanguards forces would sneak into the Last City to liberate their home and take down Ghaul. Cayde also provides a Vex teleporter that would allow them to reach the Dominus quickly. Hawthorne provides the means to sneak into the Last City and a plan to get the Guardian to the Almighty as well. The Guardian would steal the security pass and personal ship of Thumos, the Unbroken to reach the Almighty while Hawthorne aids the Vanguard.

The Guardian succeed in disabling the Almighty which allows Zavala to initiate their attack to liberate the Last City. Despite having no Light to aid them, Zavala and the Vanguard's forces succeed in taking out Cabal troops and checkpoints but was almost killed by a Red Legion soldier. Thankfully, he was saved by Hawthorne, who thanks her and calls her a Guardian. As the Guardian returns to join the fight, Zavala and his team hold off the Red Legion as they get to their position while Cayde sets up the teleporter. The Guardian reached them, wounded but alive, and use the teleporter to infiltrate Ghaul's command ship, the Immortal, near the Cage. There the Guardian faces off and defeats Ghaul, ending the life of the Dominus. In the chaos, the Traveler awakens after centuries of slumber and restores the Light, driving the Red Legion from the Last City.

====A New Golden Age====

With the City reclaimed and the Traveler awake, Zavala congratulates the Guardian while proclaiming this the start of new Golden Age for all humanity. As the fighting calmed down, Zavala and the Vanguard set up a new base near the ruins of the Tower while reinstating the Strike protocols to battle the enemies of the City once again.

With the Speaker's death, Zavala became the acting head of the Consensus. At the first meeting of the Consensus held after the battle, Executor Hideo protested that only a Speaker could call them to order, and Lakshmi-2 asked what the bylaws said about choosing a new one. Zavala informed them that there was no process for choosing a new Speaker, and Ikora suggested that they would have to create one. Until then, Zavala stated that they would move forward without a Speaker, with all the members of the Consensus having to work together without a formal leader to keep the City running and safe.[11]

After learning that Guardian Ariadne Gris had painted a dragon onto her Sparrow, the Dinas Emrys, the Consensus summoned her before them. Zavala demanded to know if she had been in contact with an Ahamkara, which she denied and insisted that she did it because dragons are cool. As the other members of the Consensus questioned Ariadne, Zavala asked for Ikora's opinion on the matter. Ikora admitted she was not paying attention, and joked that Ariadne obviously had not been in contact with an Ahamkara because she did not win in the Sparrow Racing League often. Zavala ended the inquiry by declaring that the Consensus' official stance on the matter was that the dragon symbol was cool.[12]

At a subsequent meeting of the Consensus, Zavala asked the Titan Callisto Yin to join them, and thanked her for saving the Firebreak Order's sacred Fire Victorious, lit by the legendary Titan Wei Ning, from Firebreak Plaza during the fall of the City. Hideo informed them that repairs to the Plaza were nearly done and the Fire Victorious could be returned in a relighting ceremony soon, but Yin informed the Consensus that the Fire Victorious would not be returning to the City in the same fashion as before. Each member of the Firebreak Order would now carry some of the fire with them in the shell of their Ghosts in order to spread Wei Ning's eternal flame to each battlefield they fought on.[13]

===Tactics===
Zavala is armed with an [[Origin Story]] [[Auto Rifle]], which is capable of engaging multiple enemies at a variety of ranges due to its high sustained damage and pinpoint accuracy. He will attempt to lift himself off the ground using strafe thrusters and use them to boost forward at high speed, allowing him to "Titan skate". To close off corridors, he will place down Towering Barricades which cover a large area and completely block certain areas for a short time. Occasionally, he will deploy a [[Ward of Dawn]], a dome of [[Void]] energy, and use it to conjure a blast that will instantly kill anyone within its large radius. Shooting the ward will stop this.

During the first phase of the encounter, Zavala uses the abilities of a [[Sentinel]]. He will be shielded by Void energy, use a Shield Bash melee that slows and disorients its targets, and throw Suppressor Grenandes which prevent the use of abilities for a short time. If his shield depletes, he will conjure a [[Sentinel Shield]] that can be used as a melee weapon, thrown homing projectile, and a mobile barrier that blocks all incoming attacks. He will remain in this state for 30 seconds at a time until his shield recharges. Upon reaching 66% health, Zavala will cast a [[Light]] Switch to swap his shield and ability type to [[Arc]].

In the second phase of this fight, Zavala will have the abilities of a [[Striker]]. He will be shielded by Arc energy, use a Seismic Strike melee that produces a heavy shocking effect and moderate knockback, and throw Pulse Grenades. If his shield depletes, he will charge his [[Fist of Havoc]], enabling him to punch opponents to kill them in one hit as well as slam the ground to kill multiple targets at once; slams leave a damage-dealing area-of-effect field in their wake. He will sustain this attack for 30 seconds at a time until his shield recharges. After using Fist of Havoc, Zavala switches back to Void energy. Upon reaching 50% health, he casts another Light Switch, swapping his shield and ability type to [[Solar]].

For the final phase, Zavala initiates the abilities of a [[Sunbreaker]]. He will be shielded by Solar energy, use a Hammer Strike ability that produces a burning effect which additionally sunders its target and knocks them back a moderate distance, and throw Thermite Grenades. If his shield depletes, he will unleash the [[Hammer of Sol]], which can be thrown to instantly kill targets at a distance; hammers leave burning sunspots in their wake, causing heavy burning effects. He will sustain this attack for 30 seconds at a time before his shield recharges. Afterwards, his shield and ability type will randomly swap until he is defeated.
