Lucent Brood

The Lucent Brood is a Hive sect found within the Throne World of Savathûn, the Witch Queen. They are distinguishable by their dark blue/alabaster white armor, grey skin, and feature spike-like armor.

Uniquely among the Hive, the Lucent Brood have been gifted with the powers of the Light and are capable of raising some of their members from the dead as Hive Lightbearers through the use of their own Ghosts. Even their living members could be imbued with Light by Lucent moths, increasing their power. They play a prominent role in The Witch Queen and Season of the Risen expansions.

Trivia

• The Hive Brood's appearance seems to mimic members of the previous Broods of Sol rather than their ancestral counterparts.
• In the trailers for Witch Queen, it has been observed that Hive of this brood possess blue eyes instead of the usual green. This may be connected to the Brood using the light in contrast to the other Hive wielding the Darkness.
  • This has been proven false with the release of The Witch Queen, as many of their rank-in-file are shown with green eyes. The exceptions are Hive Lightbearers, whose eye color matches the element of their super.
• The three main examples of Lightbearing Hive (Knight, Wizard, and Acolyte) are analogues of the three guardian classes (Titan, Warlock, and Hunter, respectively).
• The Lucent Moths that the Lucent Brood use are similar to the Vex seekers found in the now-vaulted Override and Expunge missions from Season of the Splicer in that they are treated more as a minor hazard than an actual enemy; they do not possess a health bar nor do they have an identifying name label above them. Lucent Moths serve two purposes, one defensive and the other offensive.
• In their default defensive mode, Lucent Moths will seek out nearby Lucent Hive, bind to them and grant them something akin to an Overshield. When this Overshield is depleted, however, the Moth will be separated from its host unit and, if the host is killed, will seek another unit to protect instead. When the Moth runs out of units to protect, it switches to its offensive mode as a last resort, overcharging itself and flying toward a player before exploding in an Arc blast that can injure and kill Guardians and Hive alike if they are too close to it. This can be used against the Lucent Hive, as the blast is highly damaging and is instantly fatal to Acolytes within a few meters' range.
• Lucent Moths have two primary weaknesses. After a Moth's host has been killed and it separates from them, it will become vulnerable while searching for a new host, allowing the player to shoot and destroy it. In their offensive mode, when tracking toward a player to hit them, Lucent Moths can simply be shot before they reach their target. A Moth's detonation will also damage Moth Overshields, or will trigger other unbound Moths and cause them to detonate.
