Gilgamesh was the Ghost of Katabasis. He was driven mad by the Crown of Sorrow during their time on the Glykon Volatus, and Katabasis was forced to kill Gilgamesh after he began intentionally resurrecting him in dangerous places to get him killed.

BiographyEdit

At some point following the Collapse, Gilgamesh resurrected Katabasis as his chosen Guardian. The pair went on to serve under the Vanguard as protectors of the Last City.

Red WarEdit

During the Red Legion's surprise attack on the Last City, Gilgamesh's connection to the Light was severed when the Traveler was surrounded by the Legion's cage. He was separated from Katabasis in the chaos of the invasion, but later found him and accompanied him as he escaped the burning City.[1]

Gilgamesh's connection to the Light would later be restored when the Traveler broke free of its cage at the end of the Red War.

Service to the EmperorEdit

Gilgamesh traveled with his Guardian as he performed Calus' bidding, being tasked with traveling to Nessus and stealing a Cabal carrier.[2] Once retrieved, the pair aided Calus in securing live Scorn specimens from the Tangled Shore, though were not yet privvy as to why.

When Calus finally arrived aboard the carrier, he used the Scorn's innate connection to Darkness, in tandem with the Crown of Sorrow and an array of his Councilors to forge a psychic link which he hoped would grant him an audience with the Voice in the Darkness he encountered at the edge of space. After moving the Glykon into a gravitational anomaly, the ship was violently thrashed, allowing the captive Scorn to roam free. With Calus seemingly vanishing, the remaining crew, Gilgamesh and Katabasis included, were left to fend for themselves.

Aboard the Glykon VolatusEdit

As the Scorn trapped inside the ship now freely roamed the halls, Katabasis ordered Gilgamesh to leave him dead until help arrived, lest he starve onboard the ship over and over again. At some point before the events of Presage, Gilgamesh was consumed by whispers coming from a voice in the Darkness, compelling him to continuously resurrect his Guardian in dangerous areas so that the Scorn would eventually cut off their connection to the Light. Katabasis was forced to kill his Ghost with a barrage of shots from his rifle, dooming him.[3]
