History
Before the events of Destiny, humanity had gained considerable technological advancement. This technological advancement led to a Golden Age, with much of the Sol System being completely colonised. This "Golden Age" did not last. Humanity was attacked by an unknown faction or entity, which decimated human forces, until almost all human settlements were completely destroyed. The last human remnants were saved from a similar fate by the Traveler, a spherical entity of unknown power, which is said to have sacrificed itself to stop this enemy. After the sacrifice of the Traveler, humanity began to re-explore its old empire, creating a city beneath its resting place.

Grimoire card blurb

Humans are a sapient species native to the planet Earth.[1]

Overview

The remaining humans are all that survive of a race whose reach once spanned the Solar System, having descended from those who endured the apocalyptic Collapse.[2] Since then, they have fought to restore our toppled civilization to its Golden Age splendor[3] — first by the legendary Iron Lords,[4] and more recently by the Guardians.[5]

History

During the 21st Century, humanity made first contact with the mysterious entity that would later come to be known as the Traveler, the arrival of which ushered in a centuries-long Golden Age that saw humans colonize the newly remade worlds of Sol including Mercury, Venus, Mars,[6] and even the moons of Jupiter and Saturn.[7][8]

But this Golden Age would not last. Unbeknownst to humanity, the Traveler had an ancient enemy;[6] a powerful Darkness that precipitated the Collapse and nearly wiped out mankind,[9] if not for the intervention of the Traveler who sacrificed itself to push back the assailing Darkness.[10] And with its dying breath, the Traveler created Ghosts[11] to seek out those worthy to carry on its task.[12]

In the dark decades after the Collapse,[13] Humans, Exos, and Awoken found the Traveler where it made its final stand and built the City[14]—the last bastion of mankind—beneath its shadow.[15] And from an age of chaos and death began the City Age.[16]

Though its tenuous peace[17] lasted for the better part of a hundred years,[18] the City Age would ultimately come to a shattering end in the wake of the devastating Cabal invasion; with the heroic deeds of The Guardian bringing an end to the Red Legion's siege[19] and marking the dawn of a new Golden Age.[20]
