"Who, or what, is the weapons foundry known as Nadir? Where did it come from? And is the foundry's name a commentary on its own quality, or that of its rivals? An expression of fatalism? An inside joke?"

Nadir is a weapon foundry of the City[2]. Nadir weapons generally follow a naming scheme consisting of a scientific term followed by three-letter alpha code (i.e. Impulse ESc). They also make several weapons obtainable as Crucible rewards.[3]
