[[Asher Mir]], a Warlock researching the Vex on Io, informs the Guardian that the Taken are draining the Traveler energy still stored within Io. The Guardian stops the dark ritual.

Fighting through the streets and across the rooftops, the Guardian rendezvouses with the Vanguard and uses the teleporter to board Ghaul's ship and confront the Dominus. Although the battle is fierce and Ghaul gathers more and more Light to strengthen himself, the Guardian prevails. Unexpectedly, Light bursts from Ghaul's corpse and takes his form, revealing Ghaul has become Light incarnate. As Ghaul proclaims himself to be a god, however, Light begins to shine through the Traveler's cage. Miraculously, the Traveler finally reawakens, emitting a powerful wave of Light that shatters the cage and obliterates Ghaul. The other Guardians regain their Light and the Red Legion is forced to flee from the City, defeated for the first time in their history.
