The Proto-Thorn is a weapon created by Enkaar, the Anointed as the prototype to a new line of Lighteater weapons the Hive could use to close off Guardians to the Light. After the destruction of its manufacturer by the The Guardian in a showdown in the depths of the Jetsam of Saturn, the weapon would be claimed by the Guardian and taken back to the Drifter for safe keeping.

Gameplay
Unlike its previous counterparts, the Proto-Thorn was a much more dangerous variant of the Soulfire Rifle that could instantly kill a Guardian in one shot. Its charge was much quicker, taking only a second to charge and instantly fire, making it harder to retaliate.

Trivia
*Despite the Proto-Thorn being a Void weapon, the tracer it fired was blue.
