The Future War Cult was once an outsider faction. When the Concordat faction fell from grace, the Future War Cult was selected to replace it in the Consensus and was granted access to the Tower. The Consensus felt that the Cult's philosophy was more interesting than dangerous, and its focus on combat would both attract former Concordat members and aid in the Guardians' effort to restore the City's territory.

Recently, Future War Cult has been investigating the disappearances of certain Guardians who have apparently been lost to time. These Guardians are Praedyth, Ana Bray, and Pujari. The exotic quest for the Pulse Rifle No Time To Explain includes visits to the War Cult's leader Lakshmi-2 in between quest steps, including when players turn in items such as a bracelet that belonged to Ana Bray, one of the founders of the research group Clovis Bray, as well as a dead Ghost marked with an FWC paint job, possibly meaning that one of the people lost to the Vex inside the Vault of Glass was once a member of the Cult.

The Red War
The onset of the Red War was actually predicted by the FWC but no one believed their warnings, some even laughed at them and even called Lakshmi-2 a zealot. Despite this, the FWC was prepared when the Red Legion arrived and invaded, fighting the Cabal back. They used this as a rallying cry to recruit more Guardians to their cause during the Faction Rallies. However, half of the Inner Circle disappeared during the war. Lakshmi-2 noted that none of their deaths had been predicted and suspected that they were still alive somewhere.<ref>Bungie (2017/9/8), Destiny 2: Activision Blizzard - Lakshmi-2: [[Lakshmi-2#Destiny_2|"Half the Inner Circle vanished during the Red War. Some time before the onset of the Red War, the FWC predicted the Cabal invasion. However, no one in the Consensus believed their warnings, some even laughing at them and calling Lakshmi-2 a zealot. Despite this, the FWC was prepared when the Red Legion arrived and occupied the Last City, fighting back against the Cabal when others fled. The War Cult later used this as a rallying cry to recruit more Guardians to their cause during the Faction Rallies. Despite their preparation, half of the Inner Circle disappeared during the invasion, Lakshmi-2 noting that none of their deaths had been predicted and suspected that they were, in fact, still alive somewhere.<ref>Bungie (2017/9/8), Destiny 2: Activision Blizzard - Lakshmi-2: [[Lakshmi-2#Destiny_2|"Half the Inner Circle vanished during the Red War. ===Season of the Splicer===
Season of the Splicer
In the Season of the Splicer, the Future War Cult is described to be bleeding members from its faction. Many leaving after Lakshmi-2 publicly denounced Ikora Rey for allowing the Fallen of the House of Light to live within city walls or after discovering Lakshmi's plan to stage a coup against the Vanguard along with the leaders of Dead Orbit and New Monarchy.
During Season of the Splicer, FWC leader Lakshmi-2 publicly denounced Ikora Rey and the Vanguard for allowing the Eliksni of House Light to live within the city walls. She claimed she had witnessed the Fallen in a future where the Last City had been destroyed, and they could not be trusted. After her concerns were dismissed, Lakshmi planned to stage a coup against the Vanguard alongside the leader of New Monarchy. When the Hive god Savathûn, under the guise of Osiris, gifted Lakshmi and the FWC Vex portal technology, they intended on using it to exterminate the Fallen. A portal was then opened in the Eliksni Quarter, allowing the Vex to launch a direct attack on the City. The incursion was soon thwarted by the Vanguard and it was discovered that Lakshmi had died in the attack.

Shortly after, Future War Cult and the other Factions fled the City, many of their former members renouncing them in favour of the Vanguard. The current state or whereabouts of the FWC is unknown.

After the end of the Endless Night, thanks to the followers of Future War Cult and New Monarchy (along with the unknown aid of Savathûn, the Witch Queen, under the guise of Osiris) opening a Vex Portal in the Eliksni Quarter, the Vex are able to launch a direct attack on the City. This directly leads to Lakshimi's death at the hands of the Vex, and it is revealed by Ikora after the battle that the Future War Cult has disbanded; which, along with the departure of Dead Orbit and New Monarchy from the City, effectively brought an end to Factions in the Last City.
