*Champions normally appear in end-game or high-level content such as Nightfall strikes, Raids or certain Story or Exotic missions.  Strangely, they do not appear in the default mode of any Dungeon.
**There is only one place where Champions can be found in a normal patrol zone, and that is within the Circle of Bones and its adjacent areas.  Barrier Knights are most common here and at least one is meant to spawn in most rooms in or adjacent to the Circle, although an Unstoppable Ogre can be found in a chamber behind the Shrine of Oryx and, strangely, an Overload Minotaur can be found in the Summoning Pits where Phogoth is normally fought during its nightmare hunt.
***Unfortunately, Champions in the Circle of Bones have a rather unreliable and likely glitched spawn rate and the chests dropped by them award gear of a subpar quality.  These Champions are, however, the easiest to defeat in the game and therefore a good way for new players to complete champion-related bounties early on, or for relaxed players to do the same without having to enter high-end activities.
